Planting a garden wont lower my energy costs.
I see $400 bucks a mo for AC coming this summer on a 1500 sq ft house with a new AC unit

A/C costs are a problem. I planted palms to shade walls and windows, installed double pane windows, added extra insulation, a whole house fan. Did whatever I could to lower heat inputs that I had some control over. But that won’t work as well in TX as it does in coastal California. Adobe walls with their high thermal mass would be good.

???? $400 per month? Way too much! I pay approximately $90 per month on 1700 sq ft.

Coal prices are up 50% in the spot market in some locations, if you could get spot coal. More then likely if your utility needed spot to meet load they will be chasing it to the ports as it leaves the country.

In the southeast with drought conditions and tight coal, a capacity crisis looks more probable than not.

High cooling bills are in the offing this summer.
