More Orwellian nonsense going on under the nose of the GOP, which is why I’m abandoning it.

:-) Sounds like we’re dealing with a very serious crime here. Good thing this juvenile delinquent was stopped before he starting buying the harder stuff, like Jawbreakers or (gasp!) Rock Candy. (It’s pure sugar, you know.)

I’m certain the crime rate will go down a lot now that the school principal is on the case.....what a crock of B.S.!

“Has there ever been a time when chewing gum or trading candy was allowed in school? I recall kids getting sent to the principles office back in the 50s and early 60s.”
You never heard of candy sales in schools for raising money for class trips, etc.? We used to have those once or twice a year.

Candy and junkfood has been a mainstay at every school I've ever known. The health food craze at schools is a recent phenomenon around here. I'm all for healthy, natural foods, and I think schools shouldn't sell junkfood to kids. But this school is taking things to the extreme. There's no mention that he ate it in class. He's being punished for buying it from another kid at school.
Here's my favorite line in the story:
Aside from the nutrition issue, Sullivan-DeCarlo said, students create security problems when they carry money.
Oh, no, we can't have the kids carrying money now, can we? LOL. This story is so much fun. :-)

if i were this kid, i would use this to my advantage... when he’s ready to apply to colleges, he could apply to a really good conservative college, write an essay about this incident and include it in his portfolio... i think it’s great!

Was that mistake in the movie script ?

The security problem is when kids have NO money at all and are stuck somewhere with no way to call home! (Oh, I forgot, they have cell phones nowadays, but still...).

I remember the old days, too, when as kids we were told to always carry a quarter for an emergency phone call. Now kids can’t have money, I guess, or they might (gasp!) buy candy. Oh, the horror of it all!

Bluto:Over? Did you say “over”? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!
Otter: Germans?
Boon: Forget it, he’s rolling.
Bluto: And it ain’t over now. ‘Cause when the goin’ gets tough...
[thinks hard]
Bluto: the tough get goin’! Who’s with me? Let’s go!
[runs out, alone; then returns]
Ah, one of my favorite scenes in all of movie history.
Hope that answers your question.

He should have limited his purchases to school-approved items. You know, like condoms. Dont be silly.
Schools give out condoms for free.
