Yep. It seems to be isolated to that area, which is not the ‘best’ area of town...but not the worst either.

Our F-5 eleven years ago was a weirdo moving NE to SW, practically unheard of, but wrought unreal damage, brick homes scrubbed from their slabs, even the slabs scrubbed away, and roads erased, too.

Hmmm... just noticed part of my blog update was missing in my last post...

MOST RECENT UPDATE: (11:59 p.m. CST):
Red Cross is evaluating the situation to see if their services will be needed.

Fewer than 1 dozen people have been transported to ALL hospitals — it is hoped that this means all other injuries are superficial. Only one in critical condition.

INTERVIEW WITH FD CHIEF:
Widespread extensive damage across the city. APD handling traffic control. Road will perhaps be open by tomorrow. Station 4 of the Fire Department was also hit.

The storm that was headed in the direction of the city seems to have died down at this point.

Mayor is on right now...

Fire Chief reminds me of Nipsey Russell.

Fire Chief - just stated this was a tornado. So, I guess it’s “official”? Anyone know if the Weather Service has said anything, and if that’s the “official” body to say so?

Dude, you are reaching.

We have no way of knowing God’s ways regarding specificity. It is absurd to claim otherwise.

*NOTE: This interview was apparently not with the Fire Chief as he was a different person than the one speaking now. The notes above were from earlier tonight.

Here is an archived report on the Lubbock tornado in 1970.

I agree with you it was a F2 at the most.

It almost appears that this F1 or F2 (small tight funnel) was on the ground and traveling up the middle of the street for a very brief period of time in front of the CNN building. It went back up as it traveled away from the CNN building and it may have dropped down again briefly elsewhere.

You and I have seen enough F3 and F4+ damage before (since we are from the midwest) and this is not even F3 damage.

CNN calling it a Tornado as well. No word from the NWS.

It’s definitely a tornado as far as I’m concerned. I’ve lived in the south all my and life barely lived through a few of these things now, and large objects were picked up and thrown around by this event...consistent with suction.

Fortunately I live in the suburbs and this was no where near me. But accounts from friends in that area tonight and the images from TV convince me 100%

Very lucky? No injuries or fatalities on a possible F2/F3.

Praise God.

Mayor said it was a tornado. Very odd she would say that being NOAA needs 24-36 hrs. to go over visual and data. Horizontal winds can do a lot of damage.

MAYOR:
At least one building has collapsed, and at least one is unsafe. This being reported right now.

NOTE: There are no warning sirens in Atlanta. Stated; We mostly look to the media nowadays to tell us...

Praise God indeed!

Especially, at the amount of damage there is. Only one person in critical condition even with large, heavy debris falling from these buildings as well.
