There is no “could” about the lawyer weasel words that were used in the Pentagon report. They said exactly what they meant to say and avoided saying anything that could be controversial.

It’s election time and it seems that even the Pentagon has a finger in the wind.

And remember that March 19th is the 5th year Anniversary of the Iraq Invasion.

The drive by media will do all they can to make it a negative accomplishment.

Dear Sen. McCain:

A key to your victory in November will be to do a better job than the Administration has in convincing the voting public that the Liberation of Iraq was (1) legitimate, (2) wise and (3) successful.

Grass-roots translations of documents found in Iraq and released for public review by the Pentagon have provided some valuable information which speaks to these three points:

(1) Legtitimacy. This should be the easiest point to support. Saddam was repeatedly in violation of the 1991 terms of armistice following our defense of our ally Kuwait. Having tried leaving Saddam in place as a counterbalance to an ambitious Iran, we had every right to finish the job based on Saddam’s violations. In addition, the above-mentioned open-source translations have revealed collaborations between al Qaeda and Saddam’s Iraq. [citations] Saddam had supportive links with al Qaeda and had his own terrorist training ground at Salman Pak. He had to go.

(2) Wisdom. Every Western intelligence agency—EVERY one—concluded that Saddam’s WMD boasts were true. However, only small amounts of WMDs have been found to-date, though those included hundreds of tons of yellocake uranium ore which Iraq did, indeed, purchase from Africa. With the press content to spotlight the paucity of WMDs and leave it at that, its whys have not been adequately explored. Iraq has the area of California and approximately one coalition troop per square mile. We’ve found entire fighter jets buried in the sand; it is certainly conceivable that compact stashes of biological, chemical or nuclear weapons-stock remain hidden within Iraq’s borders. In addition, some truck convoys to Syria during the interminable diplomatic runup to the US’s action remain to be explained. In any case, regime change was the stated policy of the U.S. since 1998, but this remained mere words until 9/11 focused our attention. Given the horrors of 9/11 and Saddam’s well-documented support of terrorists including al Qaeda, and given Iraq’s tactically central role in the region, it was manifestly wise for its Liberation to be pursued.

(3) Success. Iraq has had free elections resulting in a stable, popularly-supported government. The purple fingers and smiling faces of newly liberated Iraqi voters form an iconic picture for this decade. “The Surge” for which you were an early and effective advocate has resulted in near-pacification of the entire country. Al Qaeda, lured into Iraq through their alliance with Saddam as documented by the grass-roots translations [citation], is shattered. If there is one clear lesson, it is that we should have clamped down on border security harder and sooner, as 70% or more of the “insurgents” (to use the media’s watered-down term for terrorists) are outsiders lured to Iraq through fundamentalist jihad. But this has been a war unlike any other, and while the troops killed and injured are very regrettable, the casualty rate is unprecedentedly low, and their sacrifice has freed a people and reconfigured a region... for the better.

We urge you to be forthright, bold and proud in advocating for America’s Liberation of Iraq. As history unfolds, the three points above will gain increasing acceptance. But the time to begin espousing them is now.

One of the largest problems we will have with Senator McCain is he is proud being a founder incorporating The 9/11 Commission. The 9/11 Commission was incompetent on Salman Pak nearing being brain dead.

There is a concise analysis of the truth of and contradictions of the Pentagon report on a site called, The Red Hunter. I checked some of his links and it looks like he may be a Freeper because some WA DC freepers are mentioned on the links. Anyway, check it out.

I was thinking of emailing the person and asking for permission to use his work. I hate to quote someone without permission.

If you are a liberal you can try to CYA by noting he wasn't "real" AQ until he swore the oath, I suppose

Yes that's probably their talking points which is pure BS. Our side has to get better on standing firm and ridiculing these lame defenses the dems put forward. So far the dems have been able to get away with many of these tactics. Our problem is much larger than the Iraq issue. It involves basic debate tactics 101.

What a great idea, to send a comprehensive letter to the McCain group. One can offer say, a solid verifiable bullet list within the body, with a promise to follow through with additional add ons as required.
Keeping the initial contact letter to a minimum (don't want to make their heads swirl, but attract their interest), may be advisable.
With the knowledge they would be supported with any translated document along with some solid verifiable news reports by well known L/MSM that supported evidence found in the past, perhaps they may bite.
I am sure any references made regarding work Stephen Hayes has done also would have merit. They need some near smoking guns, something no one can try to twist should McCain venture on this path during the debates, or in future campaign speeches. We need someone that has the skill set to comprise a letter in a form that would be best received.

Three facts that are clear -
1. Al Qaeda in general and Zarqawi in particular considered Saddam's Iraq a safe haven to escape Afghanistan and to fight another day. Even Iran, while being under much less pressure than Iraq, was considered by Al Qaeda as hostile in comparison.
2. Al Qaeda considers this jihad a worldwide asymmetric warfare that involves manipulations of the Western law and media; we can ignore it only to our own detriment;
3. By defeating Saddam's regime Al Qaeda was prevented from reconstituting and creating the next Taliban;

We also need production of good quality documentaries about al Queda and Saddam connection.

I think this is so important during the campaign season because I think the American public already heard the left comments way too much and they’re fed up with it.

I think its high time we get a new perspective that will peak the public interest and make them talk.

Anyway, it will make a good spy story....but this is the real thing.

Maybe moveamericaforward.org can help with the documentaries?

To: Milligan; All
Many FReepers have made homemade movies at Youtube about this topic. To be honest we have been shy about asking Free Republic to finance a real documentary because we want the money to stay here.

Jveritas, Ikez 78 and myself have been in touch with a very interesting individual that might help us in this arena and we will keep FReepers informed as we get permission and the work is complete.

We will keep making youtube videos until something larger happens.

Anyone that would like to share their videos on the topic please post them here so we can share ideas.

Absolutley awesome work, jv.

Last week’s pentagon report was very slippery in claiming that there were “no direct operational ties between Saddam and Al Qaeda.”

Saying “no direct...” could mean “yes, there were indirect...” “ties.”

Saying “no operational...” could mean “yes, there were “training” or “logistical” or “intelligence” or etc “ties.”

Your translation demonstrates that there were definitely “indirect” ties.

BINGO

I’d say make a copy, post a fax number for them (available on McCain’s Senate Page) and blanket them.

I really don’t think it’s a bad idea to consider sending it to Hillary Clinton’s people as well.

2/3 of the current candidates have said Saddam assisted al Qaeda. Why not take advantage of both?
