Report: New N.Y. Gov. Paterson, Wife Admit Affairs
Couple Comes Clean In Stunning Daily News Interview
Mar 18, 2008 6:00 am US/Eastern

NEW YORK (CBS) - Hours after being sworn in, a report has just surfaced that Gov. David Paterson had an extra-marital affair. And the accusations don't end there.

Not only does the report detail the alleged affair by Paterson, it also claims his wife, Michelle Paige Paterson, also had an extra-marital affair.

According to the Daily News, the governor's affair started back in 1999 when the couple was going through a rough time in their marriage.

In the interview, Gov. Paterson says he maintained a relationship for two or three years with a woman other than his wife, often having rendezvous in a Days Inn on the Upper West Side.

Paterson is quoted as saying, "This was a marriage that appeared to be going sour at one point."

"Like most marriages, you go through certain difficult periods," Michelle Paterson said. "What's important is for your kids to see you worked them out."

The Patersons have two children, a 19-year-old student at Ithaca College who is from his wife's previous marriage, and 14-year-old who attends public school in New York City.

Paterson has been hailed as a politician of integrity and a man who can build consensus in Albany after a tumultuous year under Eliot Spitzer, who was forced to resign in shame last week after a report surfaced linking him to a high-priced call girl ring.

The Daily News is also reporting Gov. Paterson flat out denied another rumor flying through Albany – that he had fathered a love child by another woman.

Maybe the legally bling Paterson was having an affair with Spitzer’s wife but didn’t know it while Spitzer was with his hooker.

The question is now: Is this all there is, or was this just an attempt at a modified limited hang out in order to keep the press from digging any deeper...?

Open marriage? Best to get the news of it out before others do.

Unless he broke some sort of law or abused his state position, it's not relevant.

“Unless he broke some sort of law or abused his state position, it’s not relevant.”

Yes it is, it shows that he lacks integrity. People who do this lack integrity.
Politicians with integrity are better than those without integrity.

If the voters choose to vote for him anyway, then it’s their choice. A poor choice, but at least they can make an informed choice.

A quote...

Because power corrupts, society's demands for moral authority and character increase as the importance of the position increases.

These watchdogs from the press are something else. I wish their lives were subjected to detailed scrutiny. They are such pompous asses, so sanctimonious. They claim their role is a critical one in the safeguarding of democracy in this country. If so, shouldn’t the morals of reporters and editors and publishers be widely publicized for the good of the citizenry in general?

I pray to God that NY will turn conservative in a backlash to the sins of the flesh these dems live out in their lives. How disgusting that my state is so repulsive.
