I am a bit long in the tooth to know the current top 40 despite the best efforts of my 13-year old daughter but I can tell you with confidence that the top 40 of my youth sure beat the hell out of the funeral dirges of the 17th century preferred by the National Public Radio crowd and apparently some paleopacifist types who would besmirch themselves by voting for paleoPaulie, the Al Qaeda answer man.
