I see churches in my hood who do not/refuse to display the Cross out of fear they will offend someone.

Most congregations derivative of the Christian Church Movement of the 1800s may or may not even have a steeple. The point being made is that it's just adornment better spent on the poor ~ but they do have crosses inside ~ but without the guy on them ya' know.
Quakers don't have steeples either ~ (traditional Quakers).
