“I find this a highly unlikely probability of becoming law, but just the idea of piss-ant politicians wanting to destroy what the Founding Fathers put in place to provide for fair representation throught out the country, is just sickening beyond compare.”

Agree for sure; this gets my you know what hot as well. If the Electoral College should ever be scrapped and we should go to a direct vote, the small states would become essentially powerless. And, who knows, the Law of Unintended Consequences being what it is, could cause some interesting developments such as consolidation of some of the lesser populated states into one. Heck, being most of the lightly populated states are Red States, maybe something even better might happen. Well, I can dream can't I?

Eliminating the Electoral College would undo one of the fundamental compromises that allowed the 13 colonies to come together as the United States. Any state would be fully justified in withdrawing from the union if its rights were violated by such a change in the basic compact under which it joined.
