It’s not the kids really, it’s their parents’ lack of values.

MSM has been hawking this news all day. As if it is news. In other news, Oprah is back up to 260.

It’s not the kids that need to care, it’s their parents.

And when the fedgov is a “no strings attached” sugar daddy, there’s really no reason to care about how your kids turn out.

I heard on the news that, in Detroit, less than a third (I think it was 20 some %) graduate.

So much for the ‘Leadership' of Kwame Kilpatrick and his band of corrupt thugs in “Moving the City forward”.

And it said that black and native American student's have effectively a one-in-two chance of getting a high school diploma

Wow, so it is just a roll of the dice I guess. Not up to the individual at all.

1 in 2 would be a record year for the school I graduated from!!!
The inner-city school I graduated from was and still is graduating on average 15% of its students.

Over a billion dollars was poured into the Kansas City, Missouri school system by order of a federal judge. Some outstanding facilities were built but it didn’t help the students’ education.

No child left behind, even if it is unable to spell its own name.

So where do the 1/2 of those that don’t graduate vanish to?

I did not graduate from high school (would have been class of 1978). I dropped out of high school three months into my junior year for reasons not related to my ability to learn. Now I have a MA degree and a professional career (completing my 11th year in this profession). There are a myriad of reasons why our countries youth do not complete their high school education, some of which have nothing to do with their ability to learn or how good the school is that they attend.

Surprise, Surprise. Pour the money into the Big Cities, yet the kids don't care.

And why should they? If they don't care, the government will give them goodies appropriated from those who did care.

"Our analysis finds that graduating from high school in America's largest cities amounts, essentially, to a coin toss," the study said.,

Except you don't have control over the outcome of that coin toss. It's not like schools are saying that only the upper half gets to graduate. Everyone who meets the requirements will receive a diploma. That percentage could be 100% if everyone applied themselves.

I’d love to take a survey - what % of school districts are run by Republicans ?

OTOH, if your science class consisted of watching Al Bore’s fiction “An Inconvenient Truth”, I wonder if I’d have been interested in science at all.

The problem with the low graduation rate of the inner cities is easily understood; however, the answer is contrary to accepted egalitarian belief in this matter.

Simply go to "The Effect of Urban Flight on IQ Distribution"; This can be found on La Griffie du Lion; that Web site is HERE

The average IQ in our big cities is now 85. This is the cutting score for graduating from the usual HS. This means that one half of inner city children cannot graduate from the usual HS without enormous desire and tutoring.

All the rest of the explanations are simply a form of denial for the real problem. President George Bush is no exception; however, I sense he realizes the problem is doing his best to come to terms with low intelligence in our educational system.

Irrational egalitarian belief that we are all equal in ability as well as in the eyes of God and the Constitution has literally destroyed the chances of many children to make some or good use of the abilities they have. No child left behind is a slogan and not a biological finding. Trying to mold children with limited academic powers into whiz kids seldom works and, then, only for a few. The rest are left discouraged and bitter.

They aren’t “counting” right. A lot higher percentage graduate in Texas cause we count matriculation into the Penal system as a “graduation”. We consider Pen time as Community Service!
