Clinton attacks Obama for small-town voter remarks

Democrat Hillary Clinton criticized presidential rival Barack Obama on Friday for describing small-town Pennsylvania residents as bitter and said she would help economically struggling communities, not look down on them.

Clinton, whose once big Pennsylvania lead over Obama in opinion polls has been shrinking ahead of their April 22 primary election showdown, said residents in small towns suffering from job losses across the state were resilient and optimistic.

"Pennsylvania doesn't need a president who looks down on them," she said at a rally in Philadelphia. "They need a president who stands up for them, who fights for them, who works hard for your futures, your jobs, your families."

“What about the 1990s didn’t they like?” she(Hillary) asked. “The peace or the prosperity?”

I didn’t like the selling/giving of nuclear and missile technology to China. I didn’t like the widespread fraud in the financial markets like ENRON and World Com, etc. I didn’t like the refusal to deal with terrorists after the first World Trade Center bombing, the bombing of US embassies, the Khybar towers bombing and the attack on the USS Cole. I didn’t like selling pardons to drug dealers. I didn’t like the Clinton’s claiming credit for the benefits from the capital gains tax cuts that they opposed.

How is saying someone is angry and bitter looking down on them

You need to keep reading.

"...they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations..."

See the condescension yet?

But some are less qualified than others. No matter who wins, the next four years or so will be extremely painful for the American people and our way of life.

That’s a good start — I’d say I “didn’t like” the continual dishonest, hypocritical, treasonous, felonious behavior..... and the list of specifics grew too long to keep track of it all.

You didn’t get it. It’s the following:

“...these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest...they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment...” he said.

THAT’s the onerous statement, i.e. “small town people” are gun-toting, bible-thumping bigots. Very condescending, insulting and totally off the mark. But very revealing, in an unscripted moment, of his feelings and opinions on a huge group of Americans.

Hillary will work for the people of flyover country while making policies that hurt them. At least Obama was honest while demeaning people who are culturally and politically at odds with him. They are both ignorant elitists, like most of their colleagues in the Democratic Party.

I think the staement is showing his Marxist leanings in the sense it kind of sound like Karl Marx’s quote........Religion is the opium of the people.......

Still, I would say there is at least some truth to it. Most rural people, even if they vote Democrat do blame immigration and outsourcing (as do overwhelming majority of social conservatives). Anger and bitterness is real.
Not everyone is philosophical about Second Ammendment.

btw, don't any Demagogues simply CHOKE on Snob-ama associating "anti-trade sentiment" with these bitter mindless "typical white people"??? I mean, come on, the Demagogues are notorious for their "anti-trade sentiment" whenever they are campaigning in union territory.....

You are so right. Most of our politicians are simply liars...in fact the biggest liar, Bill Clinton, is considered by many to be the best politician.

I don't think being a liar should qualify you for anything except humiliation but I guess I'm old fashioned.

I think him including religion as something to cling to can be exploited by GOP and should be. People go to Church in good times and bad. What he is saying sounds like if they had lot of money they would never visit the Church.

Rest, unhappiness with outsourcing and immigration......I mean the sheer hatred on this board for McCain emanates from open-borders policy.

So to say no one is angry about immigration is not true.

Yes, I think Snob-ama, is echoing, through generations of condescending leftist rants, the origin of this type of 'analysis' (not that Obama has performed any intelligent analysis of these issues)..... it comes from Karl Marx, as you note:

"Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, and the soul of soulless conditions. It is the opium of the people [Emphasis added] The abolition of religion as the illusory happiness of the people is the demand for their real happiness. To call on them to give up their illusions about their condition is to call on them to give up a condition that requires illusions. The criticism of religion is, therefore, in embryo, the criticism of that vale of tears of which religion is the halo."

Karl Marx, "Contribution to Critique of Hegel's Philosophy of Right" (1843)

Most the folks that live in small towns in Pennsylvania are “typical white people.”

Well, that’s how Obama thinks.

Now watch, Snob-ama will have to give a new desperate speech ala his speech on race, this time on “class, jobs, religion, and guns” in which he tries to convince the gullible that he does not despise all of small-town America as redneck “typical white people” — of course, since his real attitude (and that of his obnoxious wife) has become so obvious, it will be an uphill struggle. His MSM flacks like Chris Matthews will fall all over themselves praising his ‘brilliant’ and ‘historic’ speech but his campaign will continue to struggle.....
