How about we get rid of tenure, and actually work to lower the cost of an education, rather than assume parents will go through anything financially to get their kids educated?

No where in the economy is the Supply and Demand curve so horribly botched as in college. We are told that in the wake of the baby boom, there are fewer and fewer traditional students. Under normal economic theory, this lessoning of demand would lower costs. Instead, schools simply add in luxuries, charge more, and seem to get away with it.

When I went to my alma mater 30 years ago, fifty students shared a communal bathroom, two per dorm floor. Last time I went through that town, the "improved" dorms were being remodled to give every "suite" of four students their own bathroom. The cost of education goes up, and for some reason people pay it. Seems to run counter to theory.

Given this morning's story about the abortion-as-art approved project of the Yale female student, a lot of money being spent on "higher" is worse than a total waste.

LifeNews.com ^ | April 17, 2008 | Steven Ertelt

by Steven Ertelt LifeNews.com Editor April 17, 2008 New Haven, CT (LifeNews.com) -- A Yale University art student is causing a national controversy with her senior art project that revolves around self-induced abortions. Aliza Shvarts says she artificially inseminated herself “as often as possible" in order to become pregnant and self-induced an abortion with the dangerous RU 486 drug. Shvarts, a senior art major, would intentionally cause the death of the babies in with the abortion drug. Full story at: http://www.lifenews.com/state3131.html
