It would only be sheer speculation on my part ... but it is a possibility that coffee would be one of his 'triggers' for craving a cigarette since he quit smoking. I know that when I quit, it was months before I could have a cup of coffee because it automatically made me crave a smoke as well. (Talk about withdrawal from two drugs at once!)

Or, perhaps he just doesn't drink coffee ... or maybe he had already has his one or two cup limit in the hotel room before he ever went to breakfast.
