A vigilante is someone who is not a law-enforcement officer who takes it upon themselves to enforce the law. If these guys were walking up and down the street looking for law breakers and then shot someone they found sticking up a store, they’d be vigilantes. Shooting someone in self-defense when they came to you and tried to rob you is not vigilantism.

I don't think that's correct. I think a vigilante is someone who is not a judge who takes it upon themselves to adjudicate violations of law.

Non-LEOs, depending on jurisdiction, have authority to enforce laws under certain circumstances.

That said, what was cited in the article are clearly examples of self-defense, not law enforcement.

Maybe this guy should be worried about all the robberies instead.

RonF - yours IS an excellent definition (vigilantism vs self-defense).

Oakland PD is RIGHT to be worried.

D-Ron Dellums doesn't do anything. Former Mayor Moonbeam Brown tried, and found he could get anything accomplished because of "special interests" within and from outside the Mayor's office.

Oakland is home to Your Black Muslim Bakery. For one.

Two: More and more folks will be getting their guns blackmarket -- as most cities in CA have worked hard to ban "guns" from their cities. Some Democrats have gone so far as to require CA'er get FINGERPRINTED just to buy ammo.

As more folks buy guns via the "underground", guarantee-you, more homes will be broken into.

The SF Bay area has seen this operation way too many times, and the press doesn't like to talk about it much.

Buy a gun off the black market. Those who sold it to you have "pals". Your home gets broken into, guns (and jewelry, etc.) get stolen, your homeowners insurance rates go up, etc., ad nauseum. But you can't make a claim on your guns -- remember, they've not been "registered" and so they don't exist, and if they do exist, you get penalized for owning an unlicensed "gun".

The Guns go back onto the streets: repeat scenario; newer gang. And before you know it -- we've got gangland turf wars. Just like what goes on in LA.

Oakland, and for that matter SFPD could do their jobs, and do it just fine if the liberal/Dem Politicians could get their damned global warming and preening out of the damned way.

And the Democrat solution is "gun control". What happens with the Democrat implementation of gun control? Exactly what I've described above.

Shooting someone you “find” robbing a store is still not really being vigilantes. Hunting down and shooting someone you suspect of having robbed a store would be vigilantism.
