WASHINGTON The Bush administration would require commercial airlines and cruise-line operators to collect information such as fingerprints from international travelers and send the information to the Homeland Security Department soon after the travelers leave the country, according to a proposed rule.
The proposal, which will be announced Tuesday, will close a security gap identified after the 9/11 attacks and identify which visitors have overstayed their visas.

Well, I suppose this would work as long as those leaving the country aren't doing it as superheated gases and ash after the bomb goes off.
Once again uncle sham proves he can't close a barn door until he's through helping the thieves lead the horses away.

Yes, get those cruise ship passengers. That’s how the really desperate aliens escape.

"Yes, lets find out who they are AFTER they leave. What idiocy."I swear, the gov is as dumb as a rock sometimes. Many of these people won't leave anyway. If we had their prints, we might be able to find them.

Article says we print them coming into the country already, but we didn’t print them when they left.
Filling this hole wouldn’t have prevented 9-11 though.
The person apparently still actually has to leave in order to find out they have overstayed their visa, in which case we ask them to leave...which is what they were doing when we found them!
Where is the part about actively searching for people that overstay their visas?

In addition, a special task force will monitor those illegals returning to Mexico and other points south in order to establish if in fact they are returning legally to their country of origin. Failure to satisfy the task force will require the alleged illegals to remain in the US, at taxpayer's expense. There, that fixed it.

Are fingerprint data collected in lieu of the promised border fence?
