Farmers can grow people corn and cow corn.
Cow corn is for the insledge, don't know the spelling, that's what we called it when I was a kid working on the farm. It's a tougher corn, not very good, unless you're really really hungry. It was grounded up and put in the silo for the cows.

You’re absolutely right about that.
A friend of Mr.FF’s has a stepson who runs a dairy farm. He grows corn strictly for feed. Believe me we would NOT want to eat that corn.

Ethanol can not be transported by pipeline, which Mark just alluded to, but by truck and rail cars. Numerous studies have shown it takes more net energy to produce ethanol than the energy derived from it. Also, more land in the semi-arid west irrigated with non-renewable groundwater drives a race to the bottom of the finite aquifer. All of that is on top of my general aversion in using food to make fuel.

Children's Pool at La Jolla here where Calif. seals can lay out and not bothered. This is around 18 miles south of the beach where the shark was You can see seals all over including 3 miles from where I am sitting.
