Some of us conservative types thing that the government does not need any more ‘advantages’ over the people. The constitution protects the rights of the people. Not the right of the government to have advantages over the people to better control them.

Many that join are required to spend 5 years in the County jail, only to find out they are sick every week due to working with those that infected, dirty, nasty, and ill.
Many that do join wind up going out on injury and medical claims within their first 5 years. Many others that stay learn to hate people, and their job rather quickly.
Sorry dragnet, but around here all Ive seen is exponential GROWTH of police manpower and equipment...
Last weekend was derby, there was a literal army of guns and badges, and there is even a spinoff tv show...LMPD...
Now if yer talkin about quality human beings joinin the ranks, ones that dont turn out like you described, you just may have a point...
Exactly why more gun laws are NOT needed, but judges that will enforce existing gun laws are sorely needed.

May 6, 2008 — A Brooklyn cop’s “guesswork” in making gun busts could shoot down as many as 20 pending weapons cases, The Post has learned.
Federal prosecutors recently dropped one gun case because of what a judge described as Officer Kaz Daughtry’s flawed methodology, and now prosecutors from the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office are reviewing 20 pending cases on which the cop was the arresting officer, law-enforcement sources said.
Daughtry had busted Anthony McRae in Brownsville last September after he saw him adjusting something on his waistband.
His search found McRae was carrying a loaded .45-caliber Ruger and heroin - but it was the only gun he came up with in a three-day sweep.
Brooklyn federal Judge John Gleeson found Daughtry shouldn’t have searched McRae because the convicted felon “did not move in a sufficiently suspicious manner.”

With the threats/rhetoric about a zero tolerance policy for Broadway 'cruising', they damn near instigated riots with such a heavy intimidation/presence...
a few years ago there was A shooting/murder and several fights on Broadway [1000s of outta-towners present] during the gridlock that the locals call cruising. the next year the city basically shut the whole area down by blockading the streets, and businesses lost major daily and derby tourist $$$, so the cruisers circulated directions to the LMPD chiefs neighborhood to cruise there...lololo
the compromise, to keep the streets open, under threat of blockading at the first sign of stopping a car on the street. MANY people were ticketed and stopped/questioned for circling the block to find parking spaces...not a very welcoming face to a world known race that the city bases alot of $$$ on...
