For fear of oil spills, as of 2008, the U.S. federal government and various states ban drilling in thousands upon thousands of square miles off the U.S. coast.

As many of these sites are outside the 12 mile limit; they are in international water. Maybe we can get China to drill there, so we can buy that oil from China... I mean, if we are stupid enough to ignore oil right off our shores, in international waters; because we are afraid of environmental wackos - don't we deserve to be in this mess?

China is already planning to do this in cooperation with Cuba and Venezuala.
