Results from the 2008 GMAC Insurance National Drivers Test released today found that 16.4 percent of drivers on the road – amounting to roughly 33 million licensed Americans – would not pass a written drivers test exam if taken today... Kansas drivers ranked first in the nation, with an average test score of 84.0 percent; New Jersey drivers ranked last, with an average score of 69.9 percent.

There are other factors, is there any degree of casual correlation between blue states and ignorance of motor vehicle laws, versus red states as the most knowledgeable?

“Worst states tend to be liberal.” - Mere coincidence? Not that I’ve got a special spot for liberal drivers...

48 MA
49 NY
50 DC
51 NJ

Why does that not surprise me AT ALL??
(I’d say Boston and NYC drivers are the worst in the country, although I can only judge from observed rudeness - recklessness - irresponsibility, not from tested knowledge!)

Whenever I see a car with a “Kerry for President” or some such claptrap, I always give that car a wide berth because I know the driver has severely diminished capacity.

Liberals do not care about rules, laws and standards of individual measurement. This is just another example of liberalism at work....

California used to have some of the best drivers around. You’re taking your life in your hands when you go on our roadways today.

Here in Glendale some people think nothing of pulling out of driveways onto the road without looking. The me first attitude of some of our recent immigrants (over the last thirty years) is a beauty to behold.

While this 16% stat sounds interesting at first, there are some specific regulations that most of us have forgotten long ago, that are necessary to know, to pass the test. That doesn’t necessarily mean you’re a bad driver if you don’t remember some precise specifics.

Hey! Us Jersey drivers are just plain efficient.

We only need one hand signal for nearly all driving situations!

Approximately two in three (63 percent) believe that drivers should be required to re-take the DMV road test after a certain age;

I think they should do much more of a thorough job conduting background investigations of DMV employees, and force them to take random drug tests.

Sounds like pay day.

New Mexico drivers are the worst. Behind South Korea.

It has nothing to do with knowledge of the law. More likely it's the Red State RESPECT for Reasonable Laws vs the Blue State DISDAINE for Any Law!

The ‘Dale is especially scary...if it isn’t the crazy pedestrians walking out in front of you, it’s the 25 year old dude in a BMW 7 series blowing your doors off on Glenoaks...

True Glendale story: a friend was a brand-new GPD officer last year, and made his very first traffic stop....of a 7 Series Beemer, with a classic Glendalian driver. Driver gets out, and is outraged...Outraged! that he was stopped for going only 20 mph over the posted limit (in a residential area). Guy drove off, refusing to sign the ticket saying “Dis ees boolsh**t....”. So the punch line was his FTO saying “Oh, yeah, I forgot to tell you about that....don’t worry, we’ll still fang the guy, but some of these folks think it’s beneath them to sign the ticket....”

This ain’t Mayberry anymore...

Sounds like pay day.

That would be 'pay day' for personal injury lawyers, right?

No, someone backing out of their driveway, failing to yield, causing danger to others, causing injury or damage, will pay, both the attorney and victim /plaintiff. In any reasonable settlement, you'd have to be a fool not to settle, and avoid court.

The lawyers are not the only ones awarded.

Moral relativism on the highways began when moral absolutes crumbled.

Blame it on “right turn on red”.

A Red light no longer meant “stop”.

Actually, I think it started way before that, when they started letting people drive on the wrong side of the road to go around a slower vehicle.

I never drove myself in Korea but just riding in a limousine bus was plenty exciting.
