Put oil firm chiefs on trial, says leading climate change scientist
The Guardian ^ | June 23, 2008 | Ed Pilkington

Posted on 06/22/2008 7:07:11 PM PDT by redrunner

James Hansen, one of the world's leading climate scientists, will today call for the chief executives of large fossil fuel companies to be put on trial for high crimes against humanity and nature, accusing them of actively spreading doubt about global warming in the same way that tobacco companies blurred the links between smoking and cancer.

Hansen will use the symbolically charged 20th anniversary of his groundbreaking speech to the US Congress - in which he was among the first to sound the alarm over the reality of global warming - to argue that radical steps need to be taken immediately if the "perfect storm" of irreversible climate change is not to become inevitable.

Speaking before Congress again, he will accuse the chief executive officers of companies such as ExxonMobil and Peabody Energy of being fully aware of the disinformation about climate change they are spreading.

...

His sharpest words are reserved for the special interests he blames for public confusion about the nature of the global warming threat. "The problem is not political will, it's the alligator shoes - the lobbyists. It's the fact that money talks in Washington, and that democracy is not working the way it's intended to work."

Sometimes, the only thing I can think of to say when I read crap like this involves a lot of profanity.

Am I alone in that?

The title of this lies: Hansen is no scientist, he’s a propagandist.

I suppose there will be a special jail for we Glowbull WarmRing Deniers.

It had better be very very large, because there are a heck of a lot of us.

At least in this country we have a Constitutional provision against ex post facto laws, now the Kangaroo Court World Court might be able to convict oil execs without the need for a law agianst what has always been legal.

I wonder how much research/grant money this clown gets to raise the bogus alarms. I wish someone would ask him why the polar ice caps are melting on Mars. Perhaps the sun is getting hotter.

Then we need to put ethanol backers on trial for the spike in food prices and people starving today.

"James Hansen and his ilk want to drive us back to the Stone Age. And they're not kidding, folks."

And the only question is whether he'll be able to do it before the muslims kill us all.

If the Muslims kill us all, then the whackos win because we're evil for existing. And for being GW Infidels.

If the whackos succeed in having us living in mud huts and eating grass for sustenance, the Muzzies win because we'll be too weak to defend ourselves. And we'll be killed for being Islamic Infidels.

Gee, I see parallels here....

The cold war simply morphed into a political takeover, and will soon morph into a domestic guerrilla insurgency under the pretext of environmentalism, the divine embodiment of tyranny which the erstwhile secular communism lacked.

Well, I guess Mr. Hansen has finally dropped the shields to let us all in on his intentions and his credibility.....

Thank you, sir. We _needed_ that!
