I agree with your take with one exception. With McCain in charge of the party, there won’t be any chance whatsoever of moving it back to the right. He’ll be in power and everyone will be beholding to him. (the RNC, Congressional Republicans, State Republican Party Leadership, and over half the people on forums like this)
I think most people are of the same mind about McCain’s effect on the party, they just don’t want Obama to do what he is going to.

Whats your point ? Trying to funny ? Go back to DU.

Libertarian does not equal conservative, but sometimes it equals Republican. Barr is a %$#@*& spoiler.

You have an eloquent way of articulating what I deeply think and feel but am unable to put into words. I really do enjoy reading your posts as make sense and they usually reflect my own thoughts most of the time. And, I do agree that electing McCain will only cause conservatives to experience defeat in trying to re-establish any semblance of conservatism in future elections and any future form of governance.
Clinton's election proved that we could come together as a party and work to keep him in check whereas with the election of Bush Republicans caved on almost everything he attempted, good or bad and we have ended where we find ourselves today. Republicans were paralyzed and grossly impotent under Bush. It will be disastrous under a McCain administration.

I never said Libertarian did equal conservative. My previous post stated the following:
How elitist of the GOP to act as the standard bearer of and for voters by which they consider any other party as inferior.
The issue isn't whether Bob Barr is or is not Conservative or Libertarian. The issue is that the GOP assumes they are by default superior to any other parties and therefore only those parties can be taking votes from the GOP. That is why I purposely included the word "any" in my statement.

Whats your point ? Trying to funny ? Go back to DU. I wish it was only a joke. Unfortunately, McCain-Feingold is very real.
If you're trying to scare anyone into voting for McCain, I would recommend highlighting something other than free speech issues. That's not really one of his strong points.

Thank you Ron. I bloviate more than I probably should, but it's nice to hear from folks like you who think along the same lines I do. I just want our voice to be heard, and so I continue to post.
You take care.

McCains recent comments on energy are the only sensible thing Ive heard him say for as long as I can remember. Yes, it is encouraging, but hes still wrong on almost everything else. His change on drilling can hardly be called leadership. The country now is practically demanding domestic drilling. McCain is just trying to get out front on the issue. Only a moron would be opposed to drilling. Hello Reid,Pelosi, Obama, etal!
To: DoughtyOne
Obama will have opposition. McCain will essentially have none. Well said! I agree pretty much with your whole post. I, too, believe that a McCain presidency destroys the Republican party as a home for conservatives. I also believe that Obama would galvanize the Republican party as a strong opposition force. I would not, however, throw my vote to Barr. Right now, I am checking out the Constitution party and Chuck Baldwin. One thing for damn sure, McCain will never, ever get my vote.
To: timm22
Apparently you don't think a Marxist like Obama is something to scared about ? Which says alot about your real agenda here.I like the way you peddling the same old half truths of the left and snide elitist tone of you comments. You have the nerve to compare Obama policing the internet, wanting to regulate the internet, and install the fairness doctrine to these pathetic finance laws that both parties and the White House set up as a way to keep incumbents in office.

Since no third party is going to come even close to winning, I’m not motivated to vote third party. I will probably write in Ronald Reagan. I like the idea of the Republic party seeing every vote that McCain cost them.
If Reagan got ten million votes, it would send a clear message that we expect a Conservative next time around.
If I were going third party, I would also give the Constitution party a long look.

In most states though a write in vote is a waste unless the candidate has filed with the state. In essence the vote won’t be tallied for the person whose name you wrote in.
It’s a far better statement to vote for Barr or Baldwin than to write someone in. My only hope though is that the LP & CP can put aside their differences to work towards a much larger ands stronger presence for 2010 and 2012
