How can a guy who opposes the death penalty generally claim to support rape executions?
In fairness, it doesn’t mean he supports the executions themselves, but rather he believes that it is within the states’ constitutional rights to allow them. The argument present in this case was whether or not states are in line with the Constitution when it comes to using the death penalty for child rape. Four justices got it right, and argued that it is within the states’ rights to do so.
Because he needs the women’s vote and this is his way of showing his support to them.
