Chicago's Mayor Daley and what's left of his gun ban
Freerepublic dot com | 6/26/2008 | Paul Strater

Posted on 06/26/2008 4:51:52 PM PDT by VideoPaul

Daley is going to blow an aorta. I'm positive of it.

Dick Daley is SPITTING mad. You see, the Supreme Court told him "no". You don't tell Dick Daley "no". Not in Chicago, you don't.

Dick Daley wants to ban guns in Chicago. And on its face, that might make sense in some twisted parallel universe. But here in Chicago, where kids are routinely slaughtered in the mean streets even with the Mayor's overpriced, intrusive camera system, there are some people who would like to be able to defend themselves against attack.

So we have a gun ban here. The fact that there are so many shootings done by people BREAKING THE LAW, including his gun ban, matters not to the emperor and IL Presidente for life. If the gun ban was working, no one would have handguns and all these shootings would stop. This alone is proof that bans do not work and never have. An example: There is currently a ban on drunken driving in this country. There is not one square inch of land in the USA where you can legally drink and drive. Yet, Chicago Police arrest dozens if people every night for doing so. So much for bans.

Daley said on the radio this afternoon that this ruling was "frightening". Tell me, mister mayor, more or less frightening than someone calling the Chicago Police Department and being put on hold...or having a dispatcher grill you for five minutes while you are scared out of your wits? Or perhaps you could compare it to the terror one might feel while being pummeled into unconsciousness by one of your off-duty cops in a bar. Or to the fright one feels when the cops over at Stroger Hospital beat the snot out of you and the arrest you, like happened to a television reporter who had the nerve to tape a story about them doing he same thing to someone else? The first amendment apparently doesn't apply here either.

The mayor stammers, "But but but but we have home rule!" "Home rule" is a big deal to the mayor because he apparently feels it means he can do whatever he wants in "his" city. He was't a big fan of municipalities having home rule when he took acres of land away from Bensenville and Elk Grove Village for the expansion of O'Hare airport. Their home rule didn't matter. His did. Sorry, Dickie, Home rule doesn't give you the right to abrogate the constitution to your will. Why don't you go run along and do something that will get you sued and cost the city millions of dollars defending you, like when you illegally closed Miegs Field under the dark of night like the little whining coward that you are? Real men do things like that durnig the day when everyone can see them.

Speaking of cowardice, it occurs to this reporter that Dick Daley whines about how guns are NOT needed to defend oneself in Chicago, yet this is the same man who, along with his family, wakes and sleeps with a 24 hour a day ARMED police security detail. In other words, he's got his and you don't need yours. Daley doesn't get shot or mugged in Chicago because he's surrounded by cops. Tell ya what, mister tough guy who's going to fight the supreme court...why not take your tough guy routine to the streets and assign your entire security detail to protecting citizens of Chicago OTHER THAN YOURSELF and your family? Those cops surrounding Daley guarantee his safety, but he'll remind you that there are no guarantees in life when you call the police that they will arrive before you are raped, robbed, shot, knifed or otherwise brutalized while his police department is on the way. So I call on Daley to release is entire security detail, get their butts back into uniform and go defend the people who need defending. Everyone got their breath-holding kit all charged up to wait for that to happen?

Daley got owned today by the Supreme court, and not even his union buddies can change that like they persuade people to change their minds here in the CIty of Big Shoulders. A lawsuit challenging the gun ban was filed by the Illinois State Rifle Association just minutes after the Supreme court ruling. Hell, I damn near put the 9mm in the hip holster and went downtown to draw the foul myself. You see the true stripes of a liberal when he's up against the fence, and Daley has no traction here at all. What amazes me is that an attorney such as he still doens't understand the bill of rights. Kind of lowers your respect for the entire legal profession a little knowing that he passed the bar thinking that he gets to pick and choose the amendments that he prefers to apply in Chicago.

This town ain't ready for reform.

Some quotes from the Mayor...and things he conveniently left out...

DALEY QUOTE SOURCES: The Chicago Sun Times, 6/182008

1) DALEY SEZ: “This is a very frightening decision for America. …Does this lead to everyone having a gun in our society?

DALEY LEFT OUT: No, dummy. Try reading the opinion before you stammer in public. It specifically said that felons and the mentally ill, for example, could still be prohibited from owning firearms. Then again, the second amendment is optional here, so why would we expect you to actually be informed before you open up your gob in public?

2) DALEY SEZ: "Then, why don’t we do away with the court system and go back to the Old West? You have a gun and I have a gun and we’ll settle in the streets,”

DALEY LEFT OUT: According to your own police superintendent this morning, that's exactly what's happened thousands of times this year alone. He said in the Sun-Times today that 75 percent of Chicago’s murders involve firearms. So far this year, Chicago Police have responded to 15,000 “man with a gun” calls and 27,000 calls of “shots fired.” So exactly how would this be any different than the slaughter that your gun ban has brought us?

3) DALEY SEZ: "I have no problems with those hunting, gun collectors….But, how do you get a gun into your house? Does it fly in by a stork? You purchase a gun. You carry the gun in a car. You come to your home."

DALEY LEFT OUT: Handgun collectors can't collect handguns in Chicago if guns are banned, right? He also left out any shred of evidence that bringing a gun into the home by car leads to gunviolence. Perhaps he feels that stork-delivered guns would be safer? If storks are outlawed...

4) DALEY SEZ: "And we’ve shown time and time again how many children have been killed in their homes by guns. "

DALEY LEFT OUT: Solving this problem would involve gun safety training and actually prosecuting people who screw up and leave their guns where kids can get them. These are the same people who keep re-electing him, so we're sure as hell not going to mess with them.

5) DALEY SEZ: "The Supreme Court and Congress have no obligation to keep our country safe. It falls on the backs of mayors and local officials."

DELAY LEFT OUT: If 75 percent of the murders are with guns in Chicago already this year, you're not doing the job either. Maybe it's time for the people individually to protect themselves seeing as how your cops seem to be fare more interested in beating the snot out of female bartenders or TV reporters than keeping your constituents safe. 27,000 calls for "shots fired"? Wow, no wonder the Chicago air quality sucks, IT'S FILLED WITH LEAD!! Yeah, Daley, your gun ban is working just fine. Every one of those shots COMES OUT OF A GUN, genius. Ayone bother to tell the Internaional Olympic Committee about that little fat of life in Chicago before they chose us as the USA's candidate for the 2016 games? Therefore your gun ban is as big a joke as your building inspectors. I wonder when they will start shaking down gang members for bribes.

6) DALEY SEZ: "They’re changing the rules….Why should we as a city not be able to protect ourselves from those who want guns in our society?”

DALEY LEFT OUT: You have a 24 hour armed security detail and every one of the is armed. Why do you need this? Why not take the initiative, prove how well your gun ban works and walk without armed guards through Wentworth or Stony Island. I'll hold your coat. No? Coward.

7) DALEY SEZ: Daley noted that the U.S. Supreme Court building and Congress are in a security bubble with armed guards everywhere and metal detectors galore.

DALEY LEFT OUT: So does the Chicago City Hall.

8) DALEY SEZ: "Those who are rich and those who are in power always feel safe. Those who do not have the power do not feel safe. And that’s what they’re saying,”

DALEY LEFT OUT: He's a rich guy with 24 hour armed security. Seems he's living the same lifestyle he just denigrated. Why doesn't he want to get rid of his guards? Pot? I'm Kettle! Good to meet ya!

9) DALEY SEZ: “You cannot carry a gun into a federal building. You cannot carry a gun into a federal court. So, they’re setting themselves aside. They’re saying to the rest of America that the answer to all of the constitutional issues is that we can carry guns. I just don’t understand how they came to this thinking. I’m very, very disappointed.”

DALEY LEFT OUT: You can't carry a gun into Chicago City Hall either. You can't carry a gun into the Chicago Mayor's Office. So, he's setting himself aside. He's saying to the rest of Chicago that the answer to all of the constitutional issues is that only HIS armed bodyguards can carry guns. I just don't understand how he came to this thinking. I'm very, very disappointed.

From the drudge article:

“Mayor Daley, a proponent of strict gun control laws, wasn’t happy about the Supreme Court ruling, calling it “a very frightening decision.”

“If they think that’s the answer ... they’re greatly mistaken. Then why don’t we do away with the court system and go back to the Old West, you have a gun and I have a gun, and we’ll settle it in the streets if that’s they’re thinking.”

“It is frightening that America loves guns,” the mayor said, “and to me, I think this decision really places those who are rich and those are in power, they’ll always feel safe. Those who do not have the power do not feel safe, and that’s what they’re saying. If you’re elected officials, you feel safe. You cannot carry a gun into a federal building. You cannot carry a gun into a federal court. So they’re setting themselves aside, and really, they’re saying to the rest of America that the answer to all the constitutional issues is that we can carry guns. And I just don’t understand how they came to this thinking.”

Results don’t matter to liberals. As long as they march in Marx’ footsteps.

He and the rest of his ilk should pay for the lives lost due to the ban.

P!ss on the lot of them!

Heard Hizzoner on WLS today. Funny how he can't run in front of a camera fast enough when there's a school shooting, but turns into a sputtering mess when the Supreme Court issues an opinion.

I liked his line about the "elites" choosing to arm the little people to the little people's detriment. How many armed bodyguards does he have again? He had a fat cop sitting in front of his South Loop townhome even when he was at the office. Drove past him five times a week for years.

And he has the gall to call OTHERS elitists?? I wonder how many people whose last name wasn’t “Daley” were killed while that cop was sitting in front of his home when hizzoner was at work miles away?

Daley knows all this. He knows that his gun ban protects the criminal class who make the big donations to the Obama organization and those of the other politicians in the Chicago machine.

I would imagine his fear arose out of the recognition that the gravy train is over.

Dick Daley is a thug and a coward. He wants to deny to Chicagoans what he arrogates to himself and his family. And he's made sure the rest of Ilinois is forcibly disarmed too. If he thinks guns aren't needed for self defense, let him get rid of his 24 hour security detail and try to go about life like his fellow Chicagoans. Then he can tell us whether the handgun ban still works. But he should get off his high horse and stop telling people they can't defend themselves in his city. Its none of his business if they do.

I wonder if Saint Obama (whose massive campaign donations from Tony Rezko are JUST COINCIDENCE, he had NOTHING to do with Rezko AT ALL...)is appecting donations to his campaign directly in stolen goods, street drugs or enforcement money?

I’m sorry, did I say that?

Hey, I'm living in Virginia and we got Shall Issue CC AND there's nothing at all required for Open Carry. Just a holster ~ strap it on ~ take a stroll.

Got a lot of the Supremes living over here too ~ IT'S MUCH SAFER!
