A 30k foot view.
There are stories going around about Obama being a Muslim. Washington Post and Mrs. Allen ‘researched’ and discovered that the source is both a Hillary schill and Free Republic. HOWEVER, the WP nor Mrs. Allen disclosed that Mrs. Allen is an Obama schill and her research is rubbish.
Basically, they are looking for someone to blame for Obama smears.. Check the other thread I linked to, a lot more info there.

Other than reputation, which is very hard to quantitate, none (thus the legal recourse angle isn't really anything worthy of exploring, plus that isn't who we are.)
The concern will be in the long term if stuff like this is used as evidence to stifle internet free speech.
