ANN COULTER: MCCAIN: PUMP THIS! (Pump, Then Drill!)

MCCAIN: PUMP THIS!
by Ann Coulter
July 2, 2008

Well, I guess we're all pretty relieved we didn't drill in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge back in 2002. What a disaster that would have been.

The vote on ANWR was almost entirely along partisan lines, with all Republicans, except a handful of "moderates," voting for drilling, and all Democrats, except a handful of sane Democrats like Zell Miller, voting against drilling.

John McCain opposed drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge because he polled soccer moms and found out they were against drilling. They thought it sounded too much like going to the dentist. McCain wanted to ensure that he remained beloved by the two pillars of his base: "centrists" and New York Times reporters.

Even Sen. Chuck Hagel voted for drilling in ANWR. But John McCain, "our" candidate, voted against it.

I guess we're beginning to see the problem of basing a political platform on the passing fancies of "centrists." These are people who have no opinions because they know nothing about national issues. They're the ones who check the "not sure/no opinion" box on polls regarding the legalization of cannibalism.

You can't blame them: They're not being paid to know something about national issues. Those people we call "senators" and "representatives."

But now, astronomical gas prices have forced even soccer moms to spend 10 minutes looking at a problem that their leaders were supposed to be thinking about for years. And the soccer moms are saying: Drill! Drill! Drill! Bobby, come down off of there! Stop hitting your sister! Where was I? Oh, yeah ... Drill! Drill! Drill!

Consequently, McCain recently switched his position to go along with the centrists. See, that's the downside of having chosen all your political positions by polling centrists: The moment they acquire any knowledge, they'll realize you're an idiot.

It's always the same argument. Year after year, the "moderate Republicans" so respected at The New York Times harangue us to dump the Christians, the conservatives, the Swift Boat Veterans, the "right-wing extremists," the gun-and-God clingers and the fanatical pro-lifers from our party so we can repel every American who voted for Ronald Reagan in order to win the votes of people like Christine Todd Whitman.

Yes, by all means let's clear out all that deadwood and pave the way for a 49-state landslide! (For the Democrats.)

What an absolutely WONDERFUL post! You and I have a great deal in common. This is the first Presidential election in fifty years in which I will not be actively participating. I have ALWAYS done it, but not this time. I will vote for McCain. I just can’t work the 10 hour days for someone I disagree with on almost everything.

I may change my mind around October, when I start to really miss it, but I don’t think so. You are so right about it being a long time until November. A lot can happen between now and then. It should be VERY interesting and of great consequence.

We all need to work for conservatives in the Senate and House. They may well be the thing standing between us and an absolute disaster—regardless of who wins the Presidency. I'll be doing my best for Senator Jim Inhoffe.

QUOTATIONS FROM CHAIRMAN ANN

Zevon fans are so smart! -

Post from freerepublic.com:

If you look around seriously regarding John McCain, you’ll realize you can’t trust the guy at all on any subject.

You're preaching to the choir. He is the worst GOP candidate of my lifetime, and I am getting long in the tooth. I was raised by political activists and I know my way around GOP Headquarters. I know how things work. I was absolutely horrified when McCain pulled that Florida victory off. The way the primaries were front-loaded killed off any chance of anyone stopping him, especially after Rudy threw his support behind McCain and he and Huckabee formed their alliance.

I have known all about John McCain from day one and fully understand the situation. I am not voting for McCain; I am voting against Obama. I know the arguments inside out. I am doing what I believe is the correct thing to do. You won't be able to convince me to do otherwise.

My only hope is that McCain is self-serving enough to choose a strong VP and lacks his maternal longevity genes. No one thinks less of McCain as a candidate than do I but we are at war with Islamic Fascists and I refuse to vote against the United States of America. I will not provide aid and comfort to the enemy. I will reluctantly do my duty and vote against Obama.

Best thing about McCain is he might not live thru a term and we’d get another holiday they’d name a tree after him.

Despite what John has been, is, and will continue to be, I see an awful lot of blind support.

Blind vs resigned.... it's a vocabulary thing.

Politics is a team sport - winner take all. McCain will be cosseted and pampered into senescence if the congress stays republican. Worrying about McCain is like worrying about the north wind, pointless....

The future is not with McCain or his ilk but with the remnant of the GOP that is willing to work towards conservative goals.

I don’t think people are looking at what Obama can do from within. He can appoint people throughout the Federal government who in turn will hire other people. Now think about that.

You know, trotting out Obama is such a great way to support McCain. I mean, you could actually address McCain’s record, but then that would be a little awkward...

On the other hand, one could sit at home or not vote for the top spot and let surefire hate America, hate the military candidate with NO record walk into the White HOuse unopposed.

Brilliant plan! Maybe this time they can bomb the White House from the inside.

This is the first Presidential election in fifty years in which I will not be actively participating. I have ALWAYS done it, but not this time.

I had an epiphany yesterday while defending the prospect of a Mitt Romney VP pick. I was getting worn out by the negativity about Romney, McCain, RINOs, blah...blah...blah...and I asked one guy , "What would Reagan do?"

That is when it occurred to me that while I don't know what Reagan would do, I am certain of what he would not do: in-fighting, hand-wringing and name-calling. It was at that moment I stopped focusing on things I couldn't do anything about and realized how I could be helpful. I am going to work as hard against Obama as I have ever worked for a candidate. I am going to expose his agenda, confront his misrepresentations, and reveal his anti-American biases.

I will leave the trashing of our candidates to the Democrats.

Dang, if I would have known I was going to be on Ann Coulter's website I would have tried to be a little more clever. I hope this isn't my 15 minutes because in my fantasies my 15 minutes has me on a couch yucking it up with Johnny Carson. I told you I was getting long in the tooth.

My first thought when I read your post was disappointment that I couldn't share the moment with my mother who passed away suddenly at the age of 69 last November. She was my biggest fan and loved everything I did. She was also my primary political consultant. She and my father taught me everything I know and we so thoroughly loved talking politics, especially during the presidential cycle. Just a few weeks before her death my mom declared her support for Romney and we were both very excited about the primaries. In an earlier post on a Romney thread I talk about how my father had supported George Romney and how I had an opportunity to share that with Mitt Romney.

But I digress. I thank you for alerting me to my Fourth of July Eve highlight. I shall think about my parents this holiday. They were the best citizens I have ever known.

So who is Ann Coulter going to vote for? the tooth fairy? We all know McCain's shortcomings. We all would rather have another candidate in his place. But we don't. So it's either vote for him or you know the alternative..in which case the words of the Roman Emperor Claudius come to mind,

"Let all the poisons that lurk in the mud hatch out."

My tagline says it all, and is aimed squarely at third-party and "stay at home" voters. I'll be holding my nose (once again) and voting for McCain in November...

Our brave men and women in uniform saluting Empty Suit "Community Organizer" Barack Hussein Obama sends shivers down my spine. And imagine what the US Supreme Court will look like after 4-8 years of President Obama, along with a democRAT-controlled House and Senate. {{shudder}}

You are exactly right. And we all need to do our duty. Things were looking pretty bleak when George Washington was crossing the Potomac. Thank God he wasn't a hand-wringer.

We need to stop bitching about McCain and start pulling the covers on the American hating, Islamic loving, wealth-redistributing "Community Organizer" Barack Hussein Obama.

Drill! Drill! Drill! Bobby, come down off of there! Stop hitting your sister! Where was I? Oh, yeah ... Drill! Drill! Drill!

BTW, I live in Santa Babara County, home of the 1969 oil spill that supposedly kicked off the anti-offshore drilling movement. My husband works for an "energy" company formerly known as an "oil" company and we pay attention to this stuff.

The local commie newspaper, The Santa Barbara News-Press has actually been allowing some oil drilling friendly commentary to make it past the editor. Even editors have to fill up the tank.

We pay over $5 a gallon here and I'm loving it. Take that Santa Barbara with your "Get Oil Out" activism. I'm happy to see prices high enough to get the attention of these whichever way the wind blows soccer moms holding our future in the balance.

Besides, much of our retirement is in Exxon Mobil stock so we are happy no matter what happens.

“Yeah, but what are we supposed to do? It’s not like we have a choice. Voting third-party is voting for Obama.”

GRRRRR! No, voting for Obama is voting for Obama. Voting third-party is voting third-party. They may yield the same result, but the process is somewhat different.

There is no earthly force strong enough to convince me to vote for McCain. It truly will require an act of God for me to do so.
