I should like Michelle Obama, but I don't

I know I should like Michelle Obama. But . . . I just don’t.

I can’t! Because, every time I try, I’m snake-charmed back by the pearlised nail varnish and Mars Attacks! hair of the one, the only, the ultimate power cheerleader: Cindy McCain.

It all came to a head the other week when the putative First Fembot bowled through London on her way back to America from Vietnam. (Clearly, heiresses don’t worry about their carbon footprint — just as long as it’s a diamond-studded, snake-skin-heeled stiletto mega-stomp.)

With an Air Force One blow-dry and coral-pink lipstick, the former junior rodeo queen was clearly on a charm offensive. “Oh garsh,” she fluttered when asked about the 71-year-old pepaw — far from being over the hill, he actually “wore her out”, and if campaigning ever got too arduous, she sweetly contented herself with the fact that that she had “a ringside seat on American history”. The general impression was that Mrs McCain, in the style of Laura Bush and Nancy Reagan, doesn’t really want to be First Lady at all, and is, instead, rather looking forward to getting back to her diamonds and the delights of the Dallas Crystal Charity Ball once her husband has got this highfalutin political jiggery-pokery out of his system.

John McCain embarrassed by aide's terror gaffe The more John McCain is right on Iraq, the more he loses How much more reassuring than Michelle Obama, who comes from the “I’ve got a leather skirt, I’ve got a leather Birkin bag, I’ve got a PhD in whupass” school of political wifery. We’ve only just got rid of Chony and Billary, for pity’s sake, and here we are again with yet another twinkly-eyed charisma merchant whose gobby wife can barely stop herself from grabbing the microphone.

She really resents Cindy McCain’s looks, that’s what it’s about!

I couldn’t find a picture of the author, but if she looks anything like this charactature, no wonder she’s so bitter:

I believe these facial expressions reveal what's been called, "Michelle Obama's inner black panther".

a frown and brow furrows

You can tell the baseline character of a person by the shape of their wrinkles. Happy people get little laugh lines at the corners of their mouth. Angry, bitter people get furrows and trenches.

What an incredibly stupid article. This author is the most shallow person I’ve ever read anything by before. She somehow manages to like Cindy McCain, dislike Michelle Obama and dislike Hillary Clinton all for the WRONG reasons. No Michelle Obama is NOT “inspiring,” and why should anyone dislike her because she has a leather purse? Why would anyone like Cindy McCain because she has big hair and is rich? Is this satire?

I shouldn’t despise Michelle Obama, but I do.

Whatever kind of “profile” this was meant to be, the author drew much more upon her personal prejudices than on the facts of the instances raised.

With the faintest of praise, Michelle is first dismissed as being just a little too brazen (or maybe just “uppity”), while the class envy of the British proletarian kicks in when discussing Cindy McCain. Cindy has too much money, she has too much good looks, she just has too much of everything, and damn it, she doesn’t DESERVE any of it!

A projectile spew. Don’t hold back, tell us how you REALLY feel, Camilla.

I laugh at how the media tries to make Michelle Obama out to be such a beautiful woman.

Pastor James David Manning of Youtube.com fame says she looks like King Kong’s baby sister. He has to be one of the most entertaining people to come out of this election cycle.

Michelle's "Suzy Homemaker" article with a far-from-Suzy pic is at the following link. It's an AP photo, so I didn't post. The first-lady wannabe may need to be informed that a "lady" shows a little modesty.

Michelle Obama is a “sister” and is simply not to be messed with.

I do not understand how come fellow white people seem to not be able to grasp the concept.

I suppose it is partially because I did not grow up in the lily white suburbs of Boston.

Au contraire.

Any criticism of Ms. Obama is certainly going to result in a backlash that cannot be reasonably dealt with.

It is best to ignore Barak’s Ho and certainly do not ever be caught calling that girl a Bitch!

Not unless you want some trouble.

You know, when someone runs their fingernails down a blackboard? That, to me, is Mrs. Obama.

Try as I might, I could not divine this author’s point. I think she was just filling space to meet a contractual obligation, because I could not make sense of the thing.

The thought that kept going through my mind was: "This ol' broad is sexually frustrated to the max."

Ummm...what the heck was that rant about?

Camilla Long's menopausal mood swings, just like her every column.

...an off-hand remark from 16 years ago that almost certainly never occured...

I personally find it hard to believe that he actually said that. And, I also find it hard to believe that she would stay with him if he did. With her looks and money, why would she need to?
