Still do the colonoscopy at age 40 and above. They can —if caught before it mets to other organs— usually cure it. Once it spreads to a second organ its very difficult if not impossible to cure. Usually just extending your life for some time. Tony got mets in his liver in 2007 after initially only having it in his colon in 2005.
