I get confused: "colored" is racist, but "people of color" is acceptable?!

People of color means they can have red hair, blonde hair, auburn hair, or any shade from black to white hair...it also means that you can have blue eyes, green eyes, hazel, grey....oh wait, I was wrong...people of color means brown hair and brown eyes

My black son was cofused too when he was in the local school and a kid was castigated in front of the class by the social worker, teacher and principal for calling him “colored.” The PCs didnt stop until the child was crying. My son was confused and told me later that he kept on trying to tell the PCs to stop but they wouldnt listen. We spent a lot of time talking about words.
