It's got nothing to do with hippies or enviroweenies. Higher energy costs have made living in an exurban McMansion and making a 30 mile (one-way) commute every day. It's an illogical lifestyle and extremely wasteful, but most importantly you leave yourself at the whims of fluctuations in energy prices. This is exactly why I have always lived in the city.

Bottom line is, you only get what you can pay for. Nobody has a God-given right to live in the middle of nowhere. You want to use up a ton of energy, it's your right, but expect to pay for it, and expect prices to continue to go up. Anybody with any brains saw this coming from a mile away. High gas prices have really brought out the ugly sense of entitlement that so many of today's suburban warrior style “conservatives” have.

“High gas prices have really brought out the ugly sense of entitlement that so many of today’s suburban warrior style ‘conservatives’ have.”

I’ll assume you’re not just b*tchin’ at me, personally.

However, I’ll never give up my land. They’ll be carrying me out of here feet first, LOL!

I WORKED for 20 years and made many sacrifices to OWN land in the country. I worked for it, I PLANNED for it, and screw anyone that takes away MY choice to live as I please. I lived in-town and in suburbs with the SOLE intent of getting the heck out of there on day down the road. And I DID it! Wa-Hoo!

As for people that live in McMansions...that chit doesn’t come cheap, either, and I’ve YET to meet anyone that has their wealth tied up in a house that didn’t work for what they wanted JUST as hard as I’ve worked for what I wanted.

Sense of “entitlement?” WTF?

Dont know how things are in Minnesota, but in Wisconsin, big cities like Milwaukee are the last place you want to live.

Neighborhoods are full of crime, public schools are failing to teach the basics and taxes are triple the price of the same size house in suburbia.

I dont think its a sense of entitlement to want to keep your children safe. Do you?

So are with you with the Democrats on doing anything and everything to keep the price of gas as high as possible?

I speak for myself and my wife. We moved from Urban California to Rural California for a reason. The urban lifestyle we grew up, and lived in most of our adult lives went to Hell. Drugs, Shootings and other Crimes, Profiteering Leftist Politicians, Offensive neighbors, housing crammed on top of one another. It was a disgusting way to have to have to live. It took years to get the stench of Urban living from our noses.

You seem to assume that we whom live in Suburbia all live in “McMansions”. That’s hardly the case. Most of the folks out in the Suburban areas live in quiet, peaceful retreat in considerably less than a “McMansion”.

We won’t move back to that crap Urban lifestyle because you or any idiot Leftist thinks we in Suburbia are consuming more than you think we should. You go ahead and live in the rat infested Urban lifestyle if you wish, but don’t haughtily condemn those of us whom had the sense to get the Hell out.

Except no parent who cares about education would put their children in the failing inner city schools.

Therefore, the flight to the suburbs. It’s not only about McMansions. . .

>This is exactly why I have always lived in the city.<

Well, that’s your choice. The city in which I was born is now totally controlled by Democrats. I’m in an outlying county (12 miles or so from town, so I’m not that far in the sticks) and my family more than saves enough in taxes to make up for increased energy costs.

If you want to live in a Democrat hellhole, go for it. Mine is to live where I’m governed by like-minded people.

Ah, the good old conservative city life.

Public (government subsidized) transportation.
Public (government subsidized) sewer system.
Public (government maintained) streets on a 200 foot spaced grid.
Wall-to wall police force just to make an evening walk marginally safe.
Government restrictions on animal ownership, what you can display, what you can garden, how much noise you can make, and (until recently) your right to own a gun.

I have consciously chosen to pay less (housing, food, etc) to live in the suburbs, where I enjoy far greater freedom from the nanny state. I see a cop car about once or twice a month. How many have you seen just this morning?

And no, I’m not going to whine about gas prices. Plan B is to car pool when gas gets to about $7/gallon.
