Snubbed By Obama
Washington Post ^ | July 20, 2008 | Christoph von Marschall

Barack Obama is on his way to Europe, where an adoring public awaits. But I wonder if the reception would be quite so enthusiastic if Obama's fans across the Atlantic knew a dirty little secret of his remarkable presidential campaign: Although Obama portrays himself as the best candidate to engage the rest of the world and restore America's image abroad, and many Americans support him for that reason, so far he has almost completely refused to answer questions from foreign journalists.

~snip~

Perhaps Obama considers members of the foreign media a risk rather than an opportunity. His campaign learned the hard way how comments to foreigners can resonate at home -- recall adviser Austan Goolsbee's hints to a Canadian diplomat that Obama's critique of NAFTA was just campaign rhetoric, or former aide Samantha Power's "monster" remark about Hillary Clinton to the Scotsman. Or perhaps we're witnessing the arrogance that comes from being so close to power. One of his campaign advisers told me recently: "Why should we take the time for foreign media, since there is Obamania around the world?"

They'll find out that Obama is stupid - can't risk that.

Why should he answer any questions when the MSM is the Obamania?!

The real questions are: WHO IS BARACK OBAMA and what are his policies (today)?!

obama won’t speak to the foreign press for the same reason he won’t do Town Hall meetings with McCain...

Hard questions...No answers...

Surely a man who has said he would talk with U.S. adversaries such as Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad can spend a few moments with journalists from friendlier countries.

He won't even talk to Conservative American journalists..... I think it's pretty clear: Obama only considers you of value if he thinks he can use you to obtain his goals.

If he is still leading in October, I would not be surprised if the One refuses to debate at all.

“If he is still leading in October, I would not be surprised if the One refuses to debate at all.”

His refusal to debate McCain is obamas’ Achilles Heel.

I he is too afraid to confront McCain in debate, then he is too weak to run this country...I keep waiting for one of our consertative talk show hosts to jump on this....

My thoughts exactly. That would be unprecedented. Wonder how he will spin it? 'There is no need for those old-school debates. There is universal consensus that I will be elected.'

If he gets to the point this September of believing the oval office is his, it will be the same mistake of hubris Hillary made last year!

There is no doubt in my mind that enterprising folks hoping to make a fortune have not “made” this man. Obama has 0 to offer. I remember early on in the primaries one of the Democraps saying something to the effect that “Obama is a skilled speaker and a good looking black man - what a perfect candidate” Could have been Reid. I truly believe Obama is a setup for our mentally challenged folks who can be duped into followng a babbling idiot.

Oh, I don’t think for a moment that he is an idiot, babbling or otherwise.

Since 2004 there has been a concerted effort to hide his background and cover over his paper trail. His actions in the Illinois State Govt. have all been lost, just disappeared.

All his school records are sealed.

He won’t provide a birth certificate. His maternal grandmother is held incommunicado, voluntary or otherwise, in Hawaii.

His state legislative office records may have been thrown out.

He’s never released a specific list of law clients, instead giving a list of all of his firm’s clients, numbering several hundred each year. His campaign will only confirm representation when the media comes to them with a specific case.

He won’t release his application to the state bar. He’s never released any legal or billing records to verify that he only did a few hours of work for a nonprofit tied to Tony Rezko.

He’s never released any medical records, just a one-page letter from his doctor.

This guy, with political ambitions his entire adult life, has either buried his paper trail or never left one.

He cannot be trusted, period.

Wouldn’t you like to see Obama’s essay for admission to Harvard Law School? I’ll bet it was chock full of politically correct & multi cultural bilge

No. I would be embarrassed for anyone to read mine. Young people tend to have outrageous, unrealistic, untempered by experience, opinions. But that isn’t my point.

Everyone changes somewhat over time and he could explain all that away. But he isn’t; he is trying to hide everything and that looks really, really suspicious.

Thats exactly what I think. He isn't going to debate unless he really has too.

He gets all this MSM praise now, why debate? Any debate planned now would just be a joke engineered and controlled by the media in favor of Obama.

THAT line sums up the entire campaign mentality, doesn’t it?

Arrogance without limit.
