So?
Rush travels in circles that exclude “...most of us...” He just may NOT know anyone who uses regular. What difference does it make anyway?
So half the democrat party couldn’t convince the other half Clinton was the better candidate choice, won’t the Hillary half be smug if Obama loses?
I would go with manufacturers recommendations, with one caveat: make sure the gas you buy is good and it does not sit around. Gas looses octane over time. The Shell Station down the road looks fine and modern, but sometime when I buy gas I get some water in it. Not so bad on the truck I drive all the time, but in the boat or vette it is a no-no. I got this funnel at West Marine and use it when I fill up and it is amazing what I see in it. Vehicles that are used a lot seem to be ok. But if the vehicle sits around the water tends to come out of solution and plugs up injectors. Ethanol is also good at temporarily trapping water. Not good.
Witch Hillary has not played her Ace card yet
‘Illustrating absurdity with the absurd’, most everyone buys regular unleaded, especially at these prices, except for the over-taxed-high-income class that can afford otherwise.
Subaru’s are sports cars?
My new Tundra loves the high octane. I get amazing milage and I have a lead foot. Outboards also love high octane. I can tell because as the gas sits the performance goes down. I sometimes put octane boosters in it when it sits too long. Usually just putting in 40 gallons of high octane helps. The biggest problem however is water. We have zillions of boats around here and everybody is having problems. Cars do better as long as they drive. Water also plays heck on the tanks. I still think ethanol is one of the culprits.
I did not grow up in a machine shop but I can work on anything mechanical. I love engines.
Holy Carp!
Last time I went I took bottled water. Still didn’t help...
Mr.FF and I both drive Subarus. Is that why he insists they get fed at least Plus?
I don’t defer to him on everything, but he does know cars a lot better than I do.
Just know about engine type from car shopping.
And that's all I know about that...
Shell gas gives my CRV the knocks.
He should know his audience.
Octane boost is horrible for newer cars because it eats the filters made w/ paper......the 89 Octane is perfect for the Tundra and hi octane is better for boats unless the boat uses fuel injection
My Suburban requires regular and no more. Depends on the engine.
I took 8 gals of store bought water but fergot the shower
Well I love my Subaru and I would never feed it regular.
I never loved a car before but I love this one.
And now... deep thoughts... or ‘Who am I’?
Profile of the Sociopath - summary of some of the common features of descriptions of the behavior of sociopaths
(http://www.mcafee.cc/Bin/sb.html)
* Glibness and Superficial Charm
* Manipulative and Conning
They never recognize the rights of others and see their self-serving behaviors as permissible. They appear to be charming, yet are covertly hostile and domineering, seeing their victim as merely an instrument to be used. They may dominate and humiliate their victims.
* Grandiose Sense of Self
Feels entitled to certain things as “their right.”
* Pathological Lying
Has no problem lying coolly and easily and it is almost impossible for them to be truthful on a consistent basis. Can create, and get caught up in, a complex belief about their own powers and abilities. Extremely convincing and even able to pass lie detector tests.
* Lack of Remorse, Shame or Guilt
A deep seated rage, which is split off and repressed, is at their core. Does not see others around them as people, but only as targets and opportunities. Instead of friends, they have victims and accomplices who end up as victims. The end always justifies the means and they let nothing stand in their way.
* Shallow Emotions
When they show what seems to be warmth, joy, love and compassion it is more feigned than experienced and serves an ulterior motive. Outraged by insignificant matters, yet remaining unmoved and cold by what would upset a normal person. Since they are not genuine, neither are their promises.
* Incapacity for Love
* Need for Stimulation
Living on the edge. Verbal outbursts and physical punishments are normal. Promiscuity and gambling are common.
* Callousness/Lack of Empathy
Unable to empathize with the pain of their victims, having only contempt for others’ feelings of distress and readily taking advantage of them.
* Poor Behavioral Controls/Impulsive Nature
Rage and abuse, alternating with small expressions of love and approval produce an addictive cycle for abuser and abused, as well as creating hopelessness in the victim. Believe they are all-powerful, all-knowing, entitled to every wish, no sense of personal boundaries, no concern for their impact on others.
* Early Behavior Problems/Juvenile Delinquency
Usually has a history of behavioral and academic difficulties, yet “gets by” by conning others. Problems in making and keeping friends; aberrant behaviors such as cruelty to people or animals, stealing, etc.
* Irresponsibility/Unreliability
Not concerned about wrecking others’ lives and dreams. Oblivious or indifferent to the devastation they cause. Does not accept blame themselves, but blames others, even for acts they obviously committed.
* Promiscuous Sexual Behavior/Infidelity
Promiscuity, child sexual abuse, rape and sexual acting out of all sorts.
* Lack of Realistic Life Plan/Parasitic Lifestyle
Tends to move around a lot or makes all encompassing promises for the future, poor work ethic but exploits others effectively.
* Criminal or Entrepreneurial Versatility
Changes their image as needed to avoid prosecution. Changes life story readily.
Knocks is mostly octane deficiency, but could be caused by lots of things. If just switching gas makes a difference I would just use what works best. Some people swear by Pilot, but a friend of mine uses nothing but and last week his boat ran crappy - the fuel filter/separator was full of water! He probably burnt 40-50 gallons and had at least a pint of water in the filter!
My 20 Shearwater came with a 150 4stroke Yam and no water seperator. After a year and maybe 100 hours the injectors were flooded with water. That is when I bought the funnel filter at West Marine and put on a water separator. It does better but even with the funnel filter I get a couple of ounces of water for every day trip (20-40 gallons or so).
I think it would shock most people to see how much water is getting in the gas.
I don’t use octane boost in the car, but in the boat if it sits too long. You can just tell when you fire it up when the gas is stale and that does not take that long. Octane boost when it is really bad, 93 octane when it is just slightly cranky.
The Vette is 93 40th anniversary. It does not get driven much so I keep it full with 93. It is extremely cranky when I do not use it enough. It loves high octane. Super fun car. I put the Goodyear GSD3’s on it = slot car.
