(Norm) Coleman unloads $20,000 from (Ted) Stevens

Republican Sen. Norm Coleman said Wednesday he would give away $20,000 in campaign contributions because they came from a political action committee tied to indicted Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens.

The decision comes as Coleman's Democratic challenger, Al Franken, began airing a statewide radio ad highlighting ties between Coleman and Stevens.

Coleman's campaign manager Cullen Sheehan said the senator will donate the money to childhood cancer research. The specific recipients haven't been selected, a campaign official said.

His decision follows that of at least five other Republican senators who are shedding contributions from Stevens' Northern Lights PAC.

"The senator believes firmly in a presumption of innocence," Sheehan said. But the campaign didn't want the contributions to become "a distraction" in the race, he added.

I'm glad to see this. If Coleman had kept the money, Al Franken and the DFL would have had a hay-day (sp?) with this.

On the flip dise, if this were a Democrat senator, they wouldn't have returned the money. They'd have kept it in a heartbeat.

Comments or opinions - anyone?

At least he’s not doing what Demcocrats do. For example, Al Gore is paying carbon credits to the company he’s involved with. Other Democrats donate the money to politically connected charities that support them. It’s all a scam.

And yes, were this a Democrat, they would have been screaming to the heavens before returning the money.

Notice too, William Jefferson, Democrat from LA, has not resigned nor been stripped of his party hierarchy position, and he ran and won reelection. Truly, being a Democrat means never having to say you’re sorry. Then again, neither did Bill Clinton even though he was convicted of obstruction of justice and stripped of his law license.

The media has no shame and any transgression is horrible if a Republican does it. For the rest of humanity, nothing is out of bounds or unacceptable as far as the Democrats are concerned.

While William Jefferson (D) of Louisiana continue to hold his committee position. Ted Stevens should declare himself to be a Democrat and they can stop this waste of the people’s money.

75% of NGOs and “non-profits” are scams and nothing more than political groups wanting pols to raise taxes.

Franken also has NOTHING POSITIVE to say about either his own campaign or his own personal life, so just fully concentrate on attacking anything and everything negative having to do with Coleman, even if this means making stuff up, and then hope that enough Minnesota voters are either too ignorant, too stupid, or both to the point that Franken actually wins on November 4.

In small bills. Wrapped in tinfoil. In the freezer.

Frankly, that surprises me. I would have bet it’s closer to 95%. The growth of non-profits in America over the past few decades is unbelievable.
