I can understand the Georgian citizen emotions. But their government was suckered into beating back the seperatists in S Ossetia, which gave the Russians a pretext to come in, wrong as it was. It is sovereign Georgian territory.
But, the govt of Georgia didn’t act wisely, right as they were. They needed to stall until they were admitted into NATO, and this wouldn’t be happening. They need to use this to push for expedited membership into Nato, when this settles down.
What do you guys do when you see the bully beating up the kid down the street?
Do you say, well he obviously didn’t act wiseley and walk past?
What happened to the American Spirit that Reagan use to talk about?
Hard to say what really happened there but according to some reports Ossetians had been shelling Georgian villages for days before Georgian forces moved in. Also those Russian columns appeared quite fast, surprisingly fast.
Best to give Georgia some bombers and weapons...help the Georgians whack the Russkies.
The Russkies do not have a good war record after WWII. They are still struggling w Chechnya, so I think the Georgians will eventually turn the Russians back
Also, we need to do everything to arm those non-Islamic nations bordering Russia, so that this doesnt happen to the Baltics.
I just hope that the lack of involvement is not because of the Bush Liberal Globalist mantra of not helping Christian nations while helping Islamics. The USA will look bad if it doesnt help.
Some interesting info:
For years Russia has been issuing passports to Abkhaz and South Ossetia residents.
In March, Moscow announced that it was opting out of a CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) a ban on trade and travel with Abkhazia. Russia has also said it was considering establishing some form of diplomatic representation in the two regions.
Moreover, Russia has thousands of troops in the two provinces, ostensibly serving as peacekeepers. For years, Russia has been issuing passports to Abkhaz and South Ossetia residents.
Not much in between Georgia and Iran. Looks like Azerbaijan is next in line.
It reminds me of WWII. Shortly after the "Breakout" in Normandy, de Gaulle demanded we rush the Army forward to Paris immediately to assist his forces because he was itching to attack Nazi troops in Paris ASAP. We told him to wait a few weeks. We had other fish to fry before we could enter Paris.
Did he wait? Hell, no. He attacked prematurely and lost lots of men because of it. 'Course, the a**hole always blamed us for those losses.

That won't happen because when the dust settles there likely won't be a Georgia. There will only be a (larger) Russia. And nobody is going to do a thing about that.
