"Tharwat" sounds Indonesian to my [admittedly untrained] ear, and I'm wondering if the "Abdul" in his name indicates that he might have been born a Muslim in Indonesia, but converted to Christianity at some point in his life [and became a Republican in the United States].

In that case, he might know a thing or two about the Soetoros back in the old country.
