WASHINGTON (AFP) — Former Republican secretary of state Colin Powell denied Wednesday that he was to appear at the upcoming Democratic convention, in what would have been a coup for White House runner Barack Obama...
...Powell told ABC News in a telephone interview: "I do not have time to waste on Bill Kristol's musings. I am not going to the convention. I have made this clear."
.."He (Obama) doesn't have experience at the senior levels of national government...Last quote removed by source article for some reason.

Kristol: Colin Powell to Endorse Barack Obama
http://elections.foxnews.com/2008/08/13/kristol-colin-powell-to-endorse-barack-obama/
It's Kristol forcing a major black leader to distance himself from Obama....
The only one that comes to mind is another Democrat disaster, Woodrow Wilson. In 1910 Wilson was elected Gov. of NJ, which was his only political office before he was elected US President in 1912.
Wilson was President of Princeton U. before he became NJ's Governor, which gave him prominence and some kind of 'executive' experience I suppose, although running what was then a very small academic institution was paltry preparation for becoming President of the USA.
Most certainly Obambi would be close to the least experienced POTUS if he is some how elected. He would certainly be the most left-wing socialistic POTUS ever. Both factors should be major disqualifications with a majority of voters.
Yes, I heard Kristol say on Fox - just a couple of hours ago - that Powell was about to endorse Obama and would speak at the ‘Rat convention. Glad this is not the case. Wonder what Kristol is trying to achieve by throwing out that rumor.
Perhaps Kristol wants Powell to be McCain’s running mate????
what’s in it for bill kristol to do this?
Get his face on TV and whatever Fox pays him for ‘exclusive’ rumors.
I don't see this quote in the linked piece. Was the quote removed from the article?
It was the last paragraph, they have changed the article. You can look up in the thread and see where several folks copied those paragraphs as we where debating the meaning..
It is the reporter juxtaposing those two quotations, in the context of saying specifically that Powell “rebuffed” critics of Obama on the experience question.
It’s always possible that the reporter mis-represented Powell, of course, but the plain meaning of the last two paragraphs of that article shows POWELL making the comparison of Obama’s inexperience with national campaigns not being a hindrance to his success, with Powell’s observation that people can be President without previous high-level national experience.
Powell’s words as presented are clear - whether the reporter accurately reported them is another matter.
I still do not see any basis for anyone to say that Powell has disparaged Obama and said that Obama is unqualified to serve as POTUS, and I do not see anything anywhere (yet) that has Powell denying that he will endorse Obama.
Sure, Kristol is trying to smoke out Powell, or maybe even force a decision one way or the other (note that that original item from Kristol made it a bit wishy-washy whether Powell had made a firm decision). So far Powell has only denied that he will be a physcial presence at the DNC.
Powell has NOT denied (at least I haven’t seen it) that he will endorse Obambi, or that he may/will give some kind of statement or speech to that effect at some location other than the DNC.
The AFP just removed those paragraphs. I think they don’t like the Obamessiah dissed.
Guilty guilty.
In my defense.........I am usually on dial up and it takes forever for an entire thread to be read.
Amazing that they just took out the most damning quote against Obama in the article. Shameless journalism.
> I’m trying to think of who ran for president with less experience than Obama. <
Experience at senior levels of government? Abraham Lincoln comes immediately to mind.
That’s one reason McCain and the GOP attack machine shouldn’t make Obama’s lack of experience their main focus.
Much better to bash Obama severely for his flip-flopping, for his vague policy stances, and for his wimpy views on Jihad and Russia.
Kristol is a trouble-making mutt.
He should apologize but he won’t.
I apologize to powell for some of the things I said.
