Plot thickens in Denver death

Ottawa man's death still a mystery: The mystery deepens in the case of an Ottawa man found dead in an upscale Denver hotel room — a pound of highly toxic sodium cyanide in a jar beside him. More than a week ago, Saleman Abdirahman Dirie, 29, told his Somalian family out of the blue that he was leaving to vacation in Denver. On Monday, he was found in a fourth-floor room at the ritzy Burnsley Hotel about four blocks from the Colorado state Capitol. He had been dead for several days. Yesterday in Ottawa, a quiet west end family was struggling to understand what happened. They said it’s a mystery to them and wondered how the large-framed, quiet, good, smart boy ended up where he did. U.S. authorities — including Denver Police, the FBI and the Joint Terrorism Task Force — were also trying to unravel the mystery. Why Dirie had the substance in the first place is unclear and Denver Police are not calling the death a homicide, suicide or even suspicious. They are conducting a death investigation but have found nothing to suggest foul play. “It’s an isolated incident,” said Denver Police Det. John White. He said they are still waiting for the coroner’s report to determine how to proceed but emphasized “it’s still a very active investigation.” Wright said it’s still too early to say whether Dirie’s death was a suicide. The Denver medical examiner’s office won’t be able to determine whether cyanide killed Dirie or announce a cause of death until toxicology reports are done.

Now some dumb right wing yahoo is going to make a remark suggesting that there is something suspicious about a guy with a Muslim name entering the United States for no apparent reason and being found with a pound of cyanide.

(That was sarcastic)

Not even suspicious...routine for an ROP'er.

Several things stand out.

1) This guy is a Muslim.

2) Sodium Cyanide is a recognized terror weapon, which was used in the Japanese terrorist attacks, and also by Saddam Hussein against the Kurds in Iraq.

3) This guy was suffering from health problems and had quit work. Where did he get the money to travel to America and stay in an expensive hotel without his family knowing about it?

CLEARLY this was a terrorist effort, and the cause of death was not murder, accident, or suicide, but what is known in similar cases as a “work accident.”

Since the likeliest target was the Democrat Convention, you’d think they would be concerned. It’s not just a lot of neanderthal Republicans at risk here, after all!

Imagining a roll of that bright yellow police tape.

Instead of “Police Line Do Not Cross”, the tape, in a dull grey pastel which blends with the curtains and plants, reads simply:

NOTHING TO SEE HERE MOVE ALONG.

It looks to be a pretty nice place, all suites, so it may be possible daily maid service wasn’t mandatory or a do not disturb sign was up.

nice lounge, comfy barstools at least ;)

A refugee from Somalia who became a layabout, probably on welfare. No surprise there. But was he a Muslim? Most Somalis are, although a few are Christians. Why didn’t the reporter tell us?

They keep refering to him as a Canadian when he is a Somali refugee.

He’s about as Canadian as Obama or I am...

But CNN said that the FBI was concerned by some low level white supremacist chatter about Denver on the internet tubes.

I like that someone has carried over the Death Of A Saleman keyword for several of these threads. Helps to distinguish between different threat investigations.

“...or a do not disturb sign was up.”

Do they have one that says “Ignore the foul odor” ?

THAT would keep the curious spectators away...

Does anybody know what kind of damage a pound of sodium cyanide would do? I’m thinking sleeper cell.

I agree with you except for one thing - I believe they are very, very concerned.

“They” probably have more people investigating this than we can possibly imagine.

Can’t take any chances with the chosen one.

There was a comment exchange from a Somali muslim with a similar name on a LGF blog post. There has been some reported speculation if it was the same guy although the news has said that someone is still using the same handle.

The article says that he had been dead for a few weeks. If he was targeting the Dem Convention, he arrived over a month early. Seems to be a bit far in advance, wouldn't he stand out, and risk arousing suspicions??

As if hotels honor the DND hangers. Like hell, they might honor them for about 8 hours and it’s knock knock, do you need this, do you need that..
