Plot thickens in Denver death

Ottawa man's death still a mystery: The mystery deepens in the case of an Ottawa man found dead in an upscale Denver hotel room — a pound of highly toxic sodium cyanide in a jar beside him. More than a week ago, Saleman Abdirahman Dirie, 29, told his Somalian family out of the blue that he was leaving to vacation in Denver. On Monday, he was found in a fourth-floor room at the ritzy Burnsley Hotel about four blocks from the Colorado state Capitol. He had been dead for several days. Yesterday in Ottawa, a quiet west end family was struggling to understand what happened. They said it’s a mystery to them and wondered how the large-framed, quiet, good, smart boy ended up where he did. U.S. authorities — including Denver Police, the FBI and the Joint Terrorism Task Force — were also trying to unravel the mystery. Why Dirie had the substance in the first place is unclear and Denver Police are not calling the death a homicide, suicide or even suspicious. They are conducting a death investigation but have found nothing to suggest foul play. “It’s an isolated incident,” said Denver Police Det. John White. He said they are still waiting for the coroner’s report to determine how to proceed but emphasized “it’s still a very active investigation.” Wright said it’s still too early to say whether Dirie’s death was a suicide. The Denver medical examiner’s office won’t be able to determine whether cyanide killed Dirie or announce a cause of death until toxicology reports are done.

Only in response to some dumb left wing yahoo suggesting that there is NOTHING suspicious about a guy with a Muslim name entering the United States for no apparent reason and being found with a pound of cyanide.

(That was NOT sarcastic) ;)

Remember in the 1990s that Clinton had the FBI looking into a non-rash of non-racist church fires in the south to rout out “bigots” on the right.

Some were arson (for insurance), some were accidental, and they weren’t all minority churches.

But Clinton had a talking point to push. This was in the late 1990s. While Al Qaeda was busy plotting the 2000 and 2001 terrorist attacks. We lucked into stopping the 2000 one with a border check.

Yes I do remember the southern black church fire’ investigation.
But the F.B.I. hasn’t been politicized?

I agree. Especially high-end hotels like this. Perhaps Mr. Dead Somali either had a friend with him who double locked the door from inside and told whoever was doing room check, turnfown, etc., to go away. That would be enough to keep the room under the radar for awhile. Or, if alone, Mr. Dead Somali could have had one or more in housekeeping running cover for him, reporting the room cleaned, towels delivered, etc. As a matter of interest, Colorado has a significant Somali populace.

People get used to seeing him about. Members of the planning group have been there for months.

Good observation. Additionally, if he was not part of any convention entourage, in order to secure a room for that time (and not get kicked out during the high-demand week of the convention) he'd likely have taken occupancy much earlier, prepaying through the convention. Hotels are not going to turn down a month of occupancy for the 3 or 4 days they committed to the DNC via the convention bureau.
