Here is video of an interview done by CNN's John King with Sen. John McCain, in which McCain describes his treatement as a Prisoner-of-War in Vietnam. He talks describes the prisons he was kept in, and is asked about what it was like to come to the breaking point physically. But as you watch and listen, you can see something of the kind of person McCain is - stoical, determined and not a quitter. . .

Again? Hasn't everyone heard the story enough by now? Does McCain have anything else to talk about?

So I take it you have a problem with McCain talking about a heroic time in his life. A time that can break a man (or woman)so that they never truly recover from. A time in life that can create scars for the rest of their life. Not every one has heard this and is SHOULD be repeated over and over and over and over and over again!!!
Hope you where as vocal with John Kerry when all he could do was say “I served in Viet Nam”.

How do you know he wasn’t broken? How do you know he has recovered? I know it’s fashionable nowadays to call anyone who put on a uniform a hero. That disparages the true heroes. Being a POW is a bad thing to happen to someone. But it doesn’t make them a hero. And the BS about him refusing to be released is simply that. The captured does not determine the time of his release. The captor does.

Does McCain have anything else to talk about?

Are you suggesting he was asked questions about, say, the price of gas and turned it into being a POW?

NO.

Oh ok. So when he's asked a question about his time as a POW, what's he supposed to do? Say "None of your business"?

Nah. Because it's all he has. Without wrapping himself in the war hero flag, he's nothing but Obama lite.

So then you believe there would be no difference between McCain and Obama as CIC?

You believe they would appoint the very same type of judges to the USSC?

You are completely off base. How dare you disparage POWS who gave years of their life in service to America. They are HEROES for standing up for this country in the face of tremendous brutality and abuse. John McCain is very hesitant to speak of this time. He does need to talk about it more, because it is an incredible example of courage and strength.

“Nah” as you say, McCain was elected to congress in 1982, Obama was elected to the Illinois Legislature in 1996. Following your thinking, who has more to talk about?
I do love the political game of ping pong back and forth with you and glad to see it is being kept civil.

I don't believe either is fit for the office, period. And I think McCain would appoint judges acceptable to his friends across the aisle to the court. To believe otherwise is foolhardy.

Wait, didn't you start this by asking "is that all he can talk about?" Looks like an OBAMA-sized FLIP-FLOP. Maybe you're just Obama-lite

McCain did refuse to be released early because he felt it unfair to those who had been captured before him. Also, he felt it would be a brownie point for the commies who would taut the release as favored treatment to the Admiral's son.

He also refused to see the anti-war groups who came even though it would have meant being released from solitary. He was beaten for his non-cooperation many times. He may not have jumped on a land mine to save his buddies but he did choose self-denial over expedience on more than one occasion which is heroic behavior.

I'm surprised McCain looks as good as he does having been thru such physical torments.

The captured does not determine the time of his release. The captor does.

He explained in the interview this evening with Rick Warren that because his father was a high ranking Military Officer, he was given special preference and told he could leave early. The prisoners of war had a code: first in; first released. There was someone there who had been a POW longer than he, so he said "No" after much prayer. He said he was glad he didn't know how many more years the war would last when he said "no."

The thing is how does a prisoner dictate these things to his captors?

I didn't disparage POW’s. McCain isn't a POW. He's a slimy pol trying to milk the experience to further his own ambition.

Of course it's a flip flop. And to suggest that it is "all he has to talk about" is beyond ridiculous. I don't know if you watched him Saddleback last night, but EVERY answer of his was a HOME RUN from a conservative perspective.
