Alliance Defense Fund attorneys filed suit against the City of Elmira, N.Y., after police threatened to arrest three Christians if they did not remove a shirt and stop sharing biblical messages during a "gay" pride event at a public park.
John Barnes wore a shirt with the message "Liberated from sin by the blood of Jesus" to the Southern Tier Pride 2008 at Wisner Park a June 14 event promoted as a celebration of homosexual, bisexual and transgender lifestyles.
According to the complaint filed in a U.S. district court, Elmira police Capt. Michael Marrone ordered Barnes to remove his shirt to prevent a "negative atmosphere" at the event and arouse discomfort in other attendees.
Barnes obeyed the officer and took off his shirt so he could remain at the park without facing arrest.
Another Christian, Julian Raven, carried a Christian newsletter to the event called the Elmira Protestor. Marrone threatened to arrest Raven if he distributed the letter, saying it contained obscene or illegal material, according to the complaint. Raven complied with the order.
Capt. James Wandell and Sgt. Sharon Moyer threatened a third Christian, James DeFerio, with arrest for holding a sign on a public sidewalk adjacent to the park. The sign read: "Thousands of ex-homosexuals have experienced the life-changing love of Jesus Christ" and listed websites for more information about ministry to ex-"gays."

The POLICE STATE of Gay New York marches toward Sodom at full speed...goose-stepping as they go.
Police are doing what police always do - attempt to maintain domestic tranquility and control spontaneous outbursts of excitement.
Looks like a slam-dunk to me. Of course, this is New York we’re talking about, and they follow, shall we say, “different rules” from the rest of US.
How dare the police remove the protesters during a Homosexual Disgrace event.
If the situation had been reversed, and it was a Heterosexual Pride day, I would lay you odds homosexual groups would be allowed to wear t-shirts with alternate slogans.
Again we see that our 1st Amendment rights are only going to be honored as long as we choose to speak out according to the liberal belief set.
How does that work?
Very well!
If events occurred as reported, I believe that those three are about to own a large chunk of that city. I wish the source was something other then WND.
There is no freedom of speech. The Constitution is a joke.
The stupid cops are just doing what they are told. The corrupt administration has told them to do this. The administration doesn’t care about those “antiquated absurd notions of free speech” because the administration is afraid of the wrath of the non-traditional-lifestyle lobby.
I knew it would come to arresting Christians for their beliefs. It has happened.
What’s next?
We’re losing.
Steps to a solid lawsuit:
1) Tell the cops to bone off.
2) Have cameras at the ready to record the beating.
3) Go limp and hollar in pain.
4) See a good attorney.
Do I have to think of everything?
Rudder, the content of their protest is their business. Concentrate on the freedome of speach issues.
Seriously, I have never understood this particular aspect of theology: how does someone's death liberate you---2000 years later---from sin? "How," means the mechanism or process by which this occurs.
The police did the same thing in Philadelphia several years ago. Not one word of this from the talk show kings. I got through to Rush and the call screener told me Rush didn’t think anyone would be interested in hearing about this.
It’s important to keep in mind that Elmira is only 1/2 hour from Ithaca.
A secret? Christian theology is a secret, you say? Wow, I sure did miss something in my Sunday school lessons.
Troll much?
Rudder, are you saying you support the suppression of their free speech by the police? The theology is a side issue; address the main issue first. Do you support the police requiring the protesters to remove their t-shirts because of the speech on them?
More “Fairness Doctrine” effects...
Not trolling, troll. I asked a serious question-—no one seems to be able to come close to answering it. Can you?
