Conservationists warn of border fence's impact

MISSION, TX -- The Bush administration's recently proposed changes to rules involving endangered species could lead to projects like the fence being built along the U.S.-Mexico border that could threaten endangered wildlife, the Sierra Club warned Friday.

"We're talking about animals already pushed to the brink of extinction," Liz Walsh, chairwoman of the group's endangered species committee, said at a news conference near a border fence construction site.

Yep. Illegal immigrants could become endangered.

If we do not build a fence, then in the near future there will be nothing much left to conserve.

Perhaps they could volunteer to help the wildlife across the border in the same way that the Minuteman help the border patrol.

It’s called Darwinism. Survival of the fittest.

If the numbers have fallen off already without a fence, then the species is already at the end of the line.

It would be going against “nature” to extend the bloodline artificially.

The concern isn’t over the animals. It is over those coming here for migrant employment opportunities.

You know, I have seen machines that can reject a burn potato chip flying by at about 30 MPH on a conveyor belt mixed in with about a thousand other chips, pops it right out of the mass as it flies by.

Are they telling me that we can’t hook a Taser up near the hole in a fence that can’t tell the difference from an endangered wolf and Pablo sneaking through??

“Liz Walsh, chairwoman of the group’s endangered species committee”

Ah, a volunteer!

Liz Walsh would like to pay emergency room costs for 100 illegals for one year.

Save, save, save the earth but trash the people on the earth. If we save the animals, plants and trees without respect to humans living on the earth what human will be left to know that we actually saved the earth?

A little off topic but I had to ask.

I assume the Sierra Club overlooked the destruction to wildlife caused by the multitudes of dumps all over the border area.

Why don’t you send that to the Sierra Club? That is what they are advocating.

One of the more hilarious arguments I have heard are the Audubon people who are against the fence because it “endangers rare bird species” and haven’t figured out yet that 1) birds aren’t bothered all that much by fences and 2) the bird habitat is being destroyed on a large scale by illegals crossing. Birds will build nests in the fence before it is all over.
