Assault.

Doesn’t matter whether the referee was skilled in martial arts or not, he clearly wasn’t expecting an unprovoked attack by someone who has been training full-time to peak at the time of the event. And who could defend when they aren’t expecting anything?

That’s no way to protest a referee’s ruling, regardless of whether the referee was right or wrong.

A shameful action by this brutish ruffian. Those that know only brute force can only learn the hard way. And I expect he will...

I had a heated exchange back in 1972 with a basketball ref after a championship game we lost by 1 point.

Shameful to look back now.

Can’t imagine smacking one though.

A lifetime ban is the least this punk should suffer.

If you don’t have any more self control than this, you don’t need to be practicing a martial art, you need to be in diapers learning how to get along with the other children.

He is a pathetic excuse for an athlete. A pathetic excuse for a person.

Bruce Lee would have been 68. What could he have done to that guy at 68?

My sensei is 60, and he can still more than hold his own against fellow black belts half his age

Yeah, but throw in 30 years of cocaine use at late night Hollywood parties, three divorces to young, up and coming starlets, four plastic surgeries, a liposuction and treatment for Bulimia; I just don't think Bruce could beat today's Olympic athletes.

Human reaction time is enhanced by alertness to attack ... the ref had no reason to be on alert since competitors are ‘forbidden’ to touch the refs.

Cuba may be mad because they lost the bribe bidding war.

No.

Had this come out that Angel and his coach accepted bribes, they would be blackmailed in the future and going to jail posthaste in Cuba.

Again, while I have no crystal ball, we are talking Latin culture. The Olympics went against one of Cuba´s heroes.

I hope I am not wrong, but I think the Cuban government is going to close ranks behind Angel.

Further, every chance Cuba gets, they are going to rub Angel into China´s face.

I´m not worried about Angel one way or the other. He will have a good job with the government.

Angel is not done.

Have seen/heard too many years of crookedness in the Olympics. The selection of venue is a bribe olympics. So, have to disagree w/you.

wtf fighting is pretty flashy, I used to compete in the 80’s

But it did work as long as you stood toe to toe with someone, not on the mat

WTF didn’t prepare you for a real fight once it went to ground at all

The olimpics bore me. Sports bore me. Therefore, I know you know more about these things than I do.

Thank you.

Because I was looking at it from a Latin culture point of view.

Everyone was saying he would be in trouble back in Cuba.

All I was indicating is that he would not be.

This was a cultural issue and not a boring sports issue.
