Russia threatens military response to US missiles

MOSCOW (AP) — Russian President Dmitry Medvedev is warning his country may respond to a U.S. missile shield in Europe through military means.

Medvedev says that the deployment of an anti-missile system close to Russian borders "will of course create additional tensions."

"We will have to react somehow, to react, of course, in a military way," Medvedev was quoted as saying Tuesday by the RIA-Novosti news agency.

Russian officials have already warned of a military response to the U.S. plans, but the statement by the Russian leader was likely to further aggravate already tense relations with the West. The comments come after Medvedev recognized two Georgian regions as independent nations, prompting criticism from the U.S. and Europe.

And are the West going to be cowards and appease Russia again, like they did/are doing with Georgia?

Is he that stupid or does he believe the DNC talking points that the U.S. is stuck in a “quagmire” in Iraq and Afghanistan?

We might be scrapping a port visit in Georgia after making a port visit in Georgia? Say it isn’t so!

My, haven’t Putin and his buds gotten belligerent. Given the bluster I think this is nothing more than false bravado. If they do anything it will be very measured, as opposed to going into say Poland. The fact this has really gotten under their skin and there’s little they can do to directly punish Poland (other than turning off the lights) is apparent by their incessant chatter since the deal was signed.

Strange article. The McFaul unloaded its relief supplies at the Georgian port of Batumi two days ago.

We damn well better take action against the Russians now. They are threatening us once to often.

We need to re-enact the draft and start building up our military.

Just when we thought the worst was pver, the two Bushes and Clinton allowed the Russian Federation to be turned against us without any action to support their opponents from within.

We need to disengage from Bush’s Democracy experiment in Iraq now to face this new serious threat from these arrogant madmen.

Russia needs lots of investment if they want to get at their resources. Chatter like this will keep them in the stone age for sometime. They are too corrupt to be able to efficiently build the billion dollar stuff themselves.

The Russians seem almost to be seeking a return to the horrors of the Cold War. That is bad enough; the consequences that we as a nation might have to face with Obama as President are beyond the capacity of the human imagination.

On 03/29/04, The Anchorage Daily News carried this headline; and I've followed with a snip of the article:

Russia boasts weapon to overcome U.S. Star Wars

MOSCOW (March 29, 5:17 am AST) - Russia has designed a "revolutionary" weapon that would make the prospective U.S. missile defense useless, Russian news agencies reported Monday, quoting a senior Defense Ministry official. The official, who was not identified by name, said tests conducted during last month's military maneuvers would dramatically change the philosophy behind development of Russia's nuclear forces, the Interfax and ITAR-Tass news agencies reported.

If deployed, the new weapon would take the value of any U.S. missile shield to "zero," the news agencies quoted the official as saying.

The official said the new weapon would be inexpensive, providing an "asymmetric answer" to U.S. missile defenses, which are proving extremely costly to develop.

Russia, meanwhile, also has continued research in prospective missile defenses and has an edge in some areas compared to other nations, the official said.
--------

Is this what Russia means about "respond[ing] to a U.S. missile shield in Europe through military means." ?

**We need to re-enact the draft**

Russia’s weakness is the draftee army. In fact the last conflict that Israel fought a couple of years ago their draftee army didn’t impress me. The current US Army is the gold standard of military power. No offense to Korean and Vietnam War draftees but our current volunteer force is just way more professional and deadly.

Pay our boys what they are worth and I don’t think we would have any problems returning the military to the size it was under Reagan.

Sure didn’t take long for ex-kgb thug Putin (and his new puppet) to move us towards a new cold war and to destroy the burgeoning freedoms that came after the collapse of the Soviet Union.

It only threatens them because it will be located right next door to them in countries that they once controlled and influenced. In military terms the ABM shield doesn’t mean a thing to them. The ABM shield can’t effect the Russian nuclear arsenal. In a conflict the ABM shield can be easily taken out by conventional methods. It doesn’t require any specific type of missiles. All it will mean is that the Poles and Czechs will have missle resources allocated and pre-targeted on them.
