How Palin Came to the Top of the List

August 29, 2008 3:08 PM

ABC's Jan Crawford Greenburg reports: It wasn't until Sunday night that John McCain, after meeting with his four top advisers, finally decided he could not tap independent Sen. Joe Lieberman of Connecticut to be his running mate. One adviser, tasked with taking the temperature of the conservative base, had strongly made the case to McCain that it would be a disaster for the party and that the base would revolt. McCain concluded he could not go that route.

The next day, McCain studied the three men at the top of his shortlist: Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and former Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge. All had different strengths and negatives, but McCain was not satisfied. None of them had what McCain believed he needed to do -- and would have done -- with Lieberman.

McCain wanted to shake up the ticket.

Whew! Close call on that one!

Got any change?

Lieberman would have been a disaster for the base and would have proven Obama sorta right.

I don't know who this guy is, but he might have just saved this country. I also don't know how he hammered it home into McCain's thick, prima dona skull, but thank God he did.

"The campaign secretly flew Palin into Dayton last night."

Didn't ABC report this morning that Pailn was in Alaska watching fireworks and that reports that she was in Ohio were just internet rumors?

MSNBC also said the rumor was untrue. My belief is they simply did NOT want it to be true and in typical lib fashion figured if they repeated it often enough it would be the truth.

John McCain has turned the Democrat Party on it’s head.

YA-BA-DA-BA-DOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!

Palin has a great story of accomplishments. Palin and her close friends can tell her entire story. Sarah Palin’s experience as a PTA mom and experience as a mayor relates to heartland America at a deep level, and obviously being a governor brings executive experience.

Obama’s story stands in stark contrast. The witnesses and friends to Obama’s story are people like Bill Ayers, Jeremiah Weight, Frank Marshall Davis, and Bernardine Dohrn. Obama doesn't want the witnesses of his life and close freinds to tell his story....even if he accomplished anything he can't tell it....a senator sitting in congress being in the majority party when congress has a 9% approval rating and doesn't even have one bill with his name on it.

Some observations:

1) Obama’s Marxist speech and the Palin VP pick has energized us more then I have ever seen since Reagan. Palin is pro-life, pro-family, pro-moose hunting, pro-drilling, small government, strong defense, fiscal conservative knockout. (knockout pun intended)

2) McCain/Palin is now firmly carrying the reform/change flag...Biden typifies the Washington good o’ boy crowd, Alaska is far removed from Washington. Palin’s entire political career is built upon removing corruption and reform.

3) McCain picks up ticked off Hillary supporters which could very well determine the outcome of the election.

Right and “close advisers of McCain” are going to share this information with an idiot from ABC named Jan Crawford Greenburg! Sounds like another whining Obama fan and sour grapes to me!

MSNBC is trash. They were scared of the Palin pick. After Romney and Pawlenty was out everyone decided yea Ridge is the guy. Everyone was saying nice things about him , even Wesley Clark.

Complete BS. McCain just wanted to show that he was bipartisan. I think he wanted Palin long ago, which is why the McCain Palin website has been ready. Further, he wanted the support of Romney and Pawlenty to get this far. This pick seems to fit McCain’s personality.

Hey, Jan, you forgot to mention that Sarah’s nomination secures Alaska’s three electoral votes!

And seriously, I note with interest that Sarah was born in Idaho. Isn’t that Mormon territory?

The comments are just hilarious. Obamabots complaining she has no experience. They’re shooting themselves in the foot. Next time try a little higher up.

The real irony here is that if anything should happen to President McCain (God forbid), America will get its first woman president. Somehow, I don’t think the girls at NAG will be pleased, though.

I think all the recent talk about Lieberman was a head fake to boost the impact of the Palin pick from 7 on the political Richter Scale to 9.9. The whole MSM/Democratic establishment is shaking in its boots right now.

I donated the max to McCain in the primary but when I was asked to give to the general I said I’ll wait until he makes his VP pick.

I knew he could be counted on, but all my friends were saying he’d betray us.

Well, he met his commitment to us so folks let’s show him that we can be counted on to do our part.

Go online right now and donate to:

http://www.johnmccain.com/

Think about how angry you would have been if he chose Lieberman, and how thrilled you are that he chose Palin, and convert that difference into a dollar amount. Then donate!

After listening and reading about Sarah Palin and thinking about some of the things Obama bin Biden were saying this week I can easily see this mother and father (Sarah and Todd) sitting around the kitchen table discussing the challenges of their lives...and actually formulating a plan to succeed instead of looking to the government for their happiness.

McCain/Palin 2008!!!

Made my donation - I bet they see a big bump in donations today. I was on the Hillary forum earlier this morning as everyone was waiting for McCain’s announcement and they were encouraging everyone to send money to McCain...it was pretty funny actually. It was about 95% pro McCain and excitement!

BTW - don’t we just have until tomorrow to donate?

A thousand ditto's, dude. I've been thinking, "McCain's not that smart, nor that honest with himself; he must have some sharp, ear-to-the-ground advisor to whom he (mirabile dictu) is actually listening."
