MoveOn's Desperate Email Attack on Sarah Palin
MoveOn email | 8/31/08 | Laserman

Posted on 08/31/2008 3:38:30 AM PDT by Laserman

I received the following in an email from a kool-aid drinking friend who apparently is a member of MoveOn.org. It shows the MoveOn line of attack on Palin and the weakness of their case:

Dear MoveOn member,

Yesterday was John McCain's 72nd birthday. If elected, he'd be the oldest president ever inaugurated. And after months of slamming Barack Obama for "inexperience," here's who John McCain has chosen to be one heartbeat away from the presidency: a right-wing religious conservative with no foreign policy experience, who until recently was mayor of a town of 9,000 people.

Huh?

Who is Sarah Palin? Here's some basic background:

• She was elected Alaska 's governor a little over a year and a half ago. Her previous office was mayor of Wasilla, a small town outside Anchorage. She has no foreign policy experience.1

• Palin is strongly anti-choice, opposing abortion even in the case of rape or incest.2

• She supported right-wing extremist Pat Buchanan for president in 2000. 3

• Palin thinks creationism should be taught in public schools.4

• She's doesn't think humans are the cause of climate change.5

• She's solidly in line with John McCain's "Big Oil first" energy policy. She's pushed hard for more oil drilling and says renewables won't be ready for years. She also sued the Bush administration for listing polar bears as an endangered species—she was worried it would interfere with more oil drilling in Alaska.6

• How closely did John McCain vet this choice? He met Sarah Palin once at a meeting. They spoke a second time, last Sunday, when he called her about being vice-president. Then he offered her the position.7

This is information the American people need to see. Please take a moment to forward this email to your friends and family.

We also asked Alaska MoveOn members what the rest of us should know about their governor. The response was striking. Here's a sample:

She is really just a mayor from a small town outside Anchorage who has been a governor for only 1.5 years, and has ZERO national and international experience. I shudder to think that she could be the person taking that 3AM call on the White House hotline, and the one who could potentially be charged with leading the US in the volatile international scene that exists today. —Rose M., Fairbanks, AK

She is VERY, VERY conservative, and far from perfect. She's a hunter and fisherwoman, but votes against the environment again and again. She ran on ethics reform, but is currently under investigation for several charges involving hiring and firing of state officials. She has NO experience beyond Alaska. —Christine B., Denali Park, AK

As an Alaskan and a feminist, I am beyond words at this announcement. Palin is not a feminist, and she is not the reformer she claims to be. —Karen L., Anchorage, AK

Alaskans, collectively, are just as stunned as the rest of the nation. She is doing well running our State, but is totally inexperienced on the national level, and very much unequipped to run the nation, if it came to that. She is as far right as one can get, which has already been communicated on the news. In our office of thirty employees (dems, republicans, and nonpartisans), not one person feels she is ready for the V.P. position.—Sherry C., Anchorage, AK

She's vehemently anti-choice and doesn't care about protecting our natural resources, even though she has worked as a fisherman. McCain chose her to pick up the Hillary voters, but Palin is no Hillary. —Marina L., Juneau, AK

I think she's far too inexperienced to be in this position. I'm all for a woman in the White House, but not one who hasn't done anything to deserve it. There are far many other women who have worked their way up and have much more experience that would have been better choices. This is a patronizing decision on John McCain's part- and insulting to females everywhere that he would assume he'll get our vote by putting "A Woman" in that position.—Jennifer M., Anchorage, AK

So Governor Palin is a staunch anti-choice religious conservative. She's a global warming denier who shares John McCain's commitment to Big Oil. And she's dramatically inexperienced.

In picking Sarah Palin, John McCain has made the religious right very happy. And he's made a very dangerous decision for our country. In the next few days, many Americans will be wondering what McCain's vice-presidential choice means. Please pass this information along to your friends and family.

Thanks for all you do.

MoveOn is obviously desperate to counter the positive impact of the Palin selection. Their list of "negative" claims against Governor Palin all struck me as reasons to support her.

I thought my fellow Freepers might enjoy seeing MoveOn's desperation in print!

The liberal fear of a successful, traditional, ATTRACTIVE, woman is so obvious in these attacks. You can almost see them foaming at the mouth when you read this type of trash. I love it.

I am really impressed with how thoroughly they reasearched this e-mai, complet with footnotes and attributions. I mean who can argue with Wikepedia, Huffington Post, Sierra Club, et. al./s

At least they didn’t use without attribution, unlike their choice for #2 on the ticket.

The analyst in me found some very interesting revalations in how they organized this. MoveOn must be *terrifed* of Palin.

Every single 'man on the street' quote is from a woman. One of them even mentions the infamous 3AM phone. The whole thing reads like a laundry list of telegraphed panic lines.

It's like what the prettyboy yells before being beat up. "Not in the face, not in the face!"

I got this e-mail, too, from an older lady who is an Episcopalian, sings in her choir, and is married to a university professor. The thing that I don’t understand is when your sort of tried-and-true older Country Club Dems like her began to hang out with the radical nutbags of MoveOn.

All the “Grandmothers for Peace” in my town are prim and proper upper middle class ladies like the one who sent me this e-mail, and they’re all involved with MoveOn and even wear MoveOn t-shirts when they go out to wave their signs and call Bush a murderer. Very strange.

Notice how all of the “Alaskans” they quote are females? Probably sweaty, bitter, feninazis is my guess.

Just as MoveOn shouldn't underestimate Palin, our side shouldn't underestimate their attacks. Two things might be used to attack Palin fiercely. Both are under 'extreme conservative', that might affect independent voters' perception about her.

The first thing is about evolution vs. creationism. Many people think evolution is done deal. The second one is about climate change is not man-made. As with evolution, there are too many people who have accepted this also as done deal. They will portray her as anti-science woman that is dangerous for American kids, and McCain campaign would be better off if they prepare to respond on these attack. The should ignore the stupid ones, like question about her kid or others.

As for the trooper issue, the McCain campaign has to frame it as a cover-up issue on the part of the superior cops. The guy, after all, only got 5-day disciplinary sanction when as a public safety officer he used the teaser on 10-yr old boy, shoot the caribou, and a handful of other allegations.

...and any valid reason to not support her is 10x reason to not support Obama.

1.5 years as Governor? vs. less time as mere Congressman?
No foreign policy experience? vs. no foreign policy experience?
Anti-abortion? vs. “that’s above my pay grade”?
Holds differing environmental views? vs. lives in environment-crushing Chicago?

They’re going to find that any complaint against her - running as mere VP - sticks a lot more to their front-runner.

She also sued the Bush administration for listing polar bears as an endangered species—she was worried it would interfere with more oil drilling in Alaska.

Is this true? I am a strong supporter of President Bush, but if this is true, I respect her for it. It shows she will take action to stand up for what's right rather than just talk, talk, talk.

I agree with one thing in Moveon's email. The American people do need to know that Palin is a Pro-Life Christian who defends the teaching of creationism, stands up against the global warming myth and for energy independence for our country.

Go Sarah!

I too was struck by the obvious bias of the sources they selected and the absurdity of the “man-on-the-street quotes they supplied. If this is the best they can do, it is clear they know they have lost already!

It is funny how these people don't see how ridiculous they are going on and on about her experience...

Please, keep bringing it up! Stupid people.

I suspect these people have some 'guilt' about their 'privilege' lives. They also want to be consideed 'relevant', progressive, and 'young' by alligning themselves with those kids.

And how does that compare to stapling posters on light posts and paying out “walking around money” to get out the vote?

Palin has nearly twice as many years in elecctive office as Obama. She was solving problems of road building, municipal utilities, enviro-friendly sewage disposal while Obama was voting “present” in the Illinois Senate.

Palin was in Iraq to see the country up close before Obama got there and she was at the bedside of wounded G.I.s in Germany while Obama only worked out at the gym.

Palin has negotiated internationl natural gas contracts for Alaska while Obama never called a meeting of his Senate Subcommittee on Europe before running for Pres.

A list of her accomplishments is a 1000 times longer than Obama.

Sarah Palin has more credentials to be President of the U.S. than the Democratic front runner.

To tell the truth, outside of the spirit in which it was given, MoveOn is amazingly accurate in its description of SP.

They just don’t like it. We do.

BTW, my son is a HS teacher and a salt water fishing guide in Alaska...he’s ecstatic about the choice. So are my granddaughters, who will be voting this year for the first time, and are young Sarahs in their own right. Their bb team won the small school championship in AK two years ago, and they crew on their dad’s boat, hike and hunt.

This is good. The wording here is almost identical to the initial Obama campaign statement that their candidate had to go out and explain by saying it was a "hair trigger" response. With moveon parroting the campaign... it ain't going away.

Besides, Sarah Palin is a hunter, shooter, and life member of the NRA. I'm sure she knows more obout "hair triggers" than Obamalamadingdong. He dosen't even know which end of a gun the arugla comes out of.

The Obama libs, including Big Media, thought they had this in the bag with Conservatives staying home in Nov.

But now they know Conservatives love Palin and with the PUMAS staying home or even voting MeCain, their little pea-brains are exploding!

And I'm loving it!
