If Islamic terrorists and their supporters were looking for a safe haven during the so-called ‘war against terror’, why on earth would they bother with some dusty cave in Afghanistan, a squalid street in Iran or a dangerous suburb of Baghdad?

Britain is far more comfortable and generous towards them. And - even more attractive - they run no risk. They are allowed to carry on with their plans for our destruction unfettered by the rule of law or fears of justice.

Al-Qaeda bombing, foreign terrorist networks disrupted (Baghdad, Bayji, Mosul)

BAGHDAD – Coalition forces detained 12 suspected terrorists while targeting al-Qaeda in Iraq’s bombing cells and foreign terrorist facilitation network during operations around the country Saturday.

Two precision operations around the Iraqi capital netted wanted men allegedly tied to AQI bombing networks. Once Coalition forces moved in on a location in Karmah, about 40 km west of Baghdad, a targeted man identified himself to the force and surrendered without incident. The man reportedly procures explosives and weapons for bombing cells in Baghdad. In a separate raid in Baghdad, Coalition forces captured a man believed to be attempting to acquire poison to use in attacks. He is also believed to be tied to the AQI network that brings foreigners into Iraq to conduct attacks against civilians and the security forces that protect them.

Coalition forces in Bayji detained four suspected AQI terrorists, including a man wanted for his alleged ties to senior terrorist leaders in the region.

Farther north in Mosul, six suspects were detained during two operations targeting the network that brings foreign terrorists into Iraq to conduct attacks. Recent detainee reporting indicates that because security has improved across Iraq, terrorists are only able to use foreigners for suicide bombings.

“Iraqi and Coalition forces will continue to work for improved security so Iraqis can prosper,” said Maj. John C. Hall, MNF-I spokesman.

MOSUL, Iraq — Three suspected insurgents were killed and a house was destroyed when a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device detonated in Mosul, Sept. 6.

The suspected insurgents were constructing the VBIED when it detonated prematurely. The blast also damaged four local civilian homes.

CARACAS (Reuters) - Several Russian ships and 1,000 soldiers will take part in joint naval maneuvers with Venezuela in the Caribbean Sea later this year, exercises likely to increase diplomatic tensions with Washington, a pro-government newspaper reported on Saturday.

Quoting Venezuela’s naval intelligence director, Salbarore Cammarata, the newspaper Vea said four Russian boats would visit Venezuelan waters from November 10 to 14.

Iraqi tip leads to large cache discovery

Multi-National Division – Center

FORWARD OPERATING BASE KALSU, Iraq – Coalition forces, acting on a tip from local Iraqi citizens, discovered a cache containing more than 2,500 components Sep. 6 southeast of Samrah Village in the Babil province. It is believed this discovery will significantly disrupt explosively formed projectiles attacks within central Iraq.

Soldiers from Company B, 2nd Battalion, 6th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, found the cache after a group of local Iraqi citizens informed them of a suspected cache location that had recently received more munitions.

The Iraqi citizens gave the Soldiers a notebook with sketches of the munitions and its general location and led them to the site where the cache was located.

The Soldiers used metal detectors to discover three separate locations where parts of the cache were located.

Later, an explosive ordnance disposal team was brought in, who continued to exhume the cache sites and found complete components for EFPs along with C-4 explosives.

The Diwaniyah Peninsula and the Samrah Jungle are known historic weapons trafficking locations in the area.

Included in the cache were 414 blocks of Iranian M112 C-4, 860 copper plates, 501 back plates, 529 retaining rings and 157 steel bodies, which were all the type used to make EFPs.

“The Iraqi citizens made a significant decision to support their government and security forces when they provided the information that led to the discovery of this cache,” said Lt. Col. John Casper, Multi National Corps-Iraq chief of operations. “In doing so, they removed devastating weapons from the hands of terrorists and placed their trust and confidence in a future for Iraq.”
