MND-C Soldiers secure weapons cache in Gorziya
Multi-National Division Center PAO
FORWARD OPERATING BASE HAMMER, Iraq Soldiers from Multi-National Division - Center secured a weapons cache in the village of Gorziya Sept. 2.
The Soldiers, from 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, were performing a dismounted patrol, approximately 15 km southeast of Baghdad, when they noticed a suspicious duffel bag.
After securing the duffel bag, they discovered belts of PKC rounds, two magazines of 7.62 mm sniper rounds, two magazine holders and two armored vests.
The Soldiers then searched the village and surrounding area for other weapons and equipment that could be used against Coalition forces.
In that search, they found four AK-47s, one rocket-propelled grenade fin, one spool of copper wire and an old RPG launcher.
This find is another success story in the 2nd BCTs mission to prevent the movement of weapons and explosives into the Baghdad city center, said Lt. Col. Jason Kirk, 2nd BCT, 1st Armd. Div. executive officer.

Iraqi SWAT teams round up criminals in central Iraq
Multi-National Corps Iraq PAO
BALAD, Iraq Iraqi Special Weapons and Tactics teams captured seven suspected criminals during separate operations in central Iraq Sep. 5-7.
In a Sept. 7 operation in Hashimiyah, Hillah SWAT arrested three suspected criminal members on a Ministry of Interior warrant. The individuals are said to be responsible for improvised explosive device and small arms fire attacks against Iraqi and Coalition forces.
In a separate operation Sept. 6, serving an MoI warrant, Hillah SWAT arrested a suspected criminal leader of an assassination cell in Sedah. The individual allegedly ordered an improvised explosive device attack against Coalition forces. Additionally, that individual allegedly ordered several criminal members to attack an Iraqi Police station and assassinate an Iraqi SWAT member.
In an operation Sep. 5, Hillah SWAT arrested two criminals on an MoI warrant. One of the individuals is said to be a criminal leader responsible for improvised explosive device and small arms fire attacks against Iraqi and Coalition forces. Both suspects are believed to be responsible for the 2007 IED attack against a Hillah Regional Embassy Office convoy which killed three U.S. Soldiers.
In a separate operation Sept. 5, Diwaniyah SWAT captured a suspected criminal believed to be a facilitator of explosively formed penetrators in southern Iraq.
