What a difference a few hours make. It is almost like Sally Quinn was blinded by the light of truth on the road to Damascus. On CNN's "American Morning" on Friday, Quinn repeated her doubts as to whether Sarah Palin could "put country first" due to her family reponsibilities as a mother:
Well, something must have happened in the few hours between Quinn's CNN appearance and her apology for her own statements like this on Fox's O'Reilly Factor later that day:Everyone woman I know practically is a working mother. We have conflicts and guilts that men simply don't have. And, basically the burden of raising children falls on the mother, no matter what kind of a job she has. So, I think that to, you know, we're so far beyond the feminist argument here. This is not about feminism, it's not about sexism, it's simply about can you do the job? One of the things I noticed over this last convention is John McCain, they must have said it 1,000 times, I put my country first. He put his country first. And I think if you're talking about the commander in chief and that is what she is likely to be given his age and his health. Will she put her country first, or will she put her family first?

The Vice Presidency is more like a part time job in comparison.

FWIW there was a piece on her where she explained that the voters of Alaska were told her family would always be part of the deal--"When you get me you get them, too." I don't get the impression that there is a deficit of love in the Palin family.
Still, I am forever fascinated by the stories of those who have been crushed under the wheels of some powerful parent's fame. It has to burn because the whole world thinks your parent is blameless when you know/feel otherwise.
Many, many modern day women juggle work and family. The left has for decades said, “We (women) can have it all.” They were not politically correct when they attacked what many middle American working mother's do every single day.
Their attack of Sarah Palin fly’s in the face of their feminist rhetoric and for a lot of working women in the face of what is their truth. They do manage to do it and many have to do it.
The attacks were taken personally by working moms all across the country. They attacked how working moms and their families set their priorities. The attack was to make people question Sarah, but it also goaded and guilted, in a politically incorrect manner, the rest of the working mothers.
Even though Sarah is a conservative, she represents most modern day working moms. Families making tough choices.
I try to think about what her family might be thinking. The pride one feels when any family member feels compelled to serve their country. I do see Sarah's desire to serve our country in much the same way as I see my nephew's call to re-enlist in the Marine Corp. after the birth of his son. Is he any more negligent than Sarah for leaving to return to Iraq? We, as close and extended family, will rally to help his wife and son. The same will be done for Sarah Palin.
Lastly the media keeps spouting off about her 5 children. Technically that is a distortion of reality. We need to stop buying into that. Indeed she has 5 offspring. Two of which are now young adults. One will be deployed and the other getting married and starting their own lives. There will be only 3 children in direct responsibility of Sarah and Todd.

I have to say that I was dissapointed, though not necessarily surprised by Dr. Laura’s comments. I like her opinion in a lot of areas, but I don’t check with her for everything, which I’m afraid some of her listeners may do.
This seems more a libertarian than conservative argument to me; I don’t know Sarah Palin and her family. I simply assume that she and her husband know what is best when it comes their family. It’s really none of our business and seems obnoxious that I should have an opinion on what anyone’s family should do.
Some idiot moonbat on a local radio show called supporting Quinn and forcefully stated that public officials should be limited to one child, like Hilary Clinto, if they wish to serve.
When informed that Obama had 2 girls. The idiot simply stated that 2 would probably be “okay”? As though he didn’t even recall his previous statement.
These people should NOT be allowed to run our country!! They are STEW-PED!!
So, let’s get this straight. If Obama gets elected and one of his daughters comes down with some serious illness, he should be willing to push all fatherly impulses aside, all personal thoughts of concern, all acts of administering love and support to/for his child’s well-being so that he can properly steer the ship.
Sounds like such a man would be highly unqualified, given the level of human decency and human indifference these behaviors display!
The entire argument is fallacious. Life and all its personal joys, responsibilities, sorrows, etc. intervenes in every administration. If not, then how can our elected officials ever claim to be “in touch” with the average voter. How can they ever truly claim to “feel our pain.”
But of course, no one ever says this about men in high-level positions who have children.
Someone wise told me a long time ago, if you want something done, and want to make sure it’s done right, give it to the busiest person you know.....the person who GETS things done.
There are many more advantages to having ambitious and talented parents, who achieve.
