All this is the result of overwhelming liberalism in govt. and it's been heading our way for years now. Time we stopped it.

Torturing animals is an absolute hallmark of the sadistic, psychopathic killer. It’s generally how they start off, before they get big enough and strong enough to graduate to torturing humans. I can’t imagine why these two got off so lightly.

Agree. As the mother of 2 sons now grown, I know what nice kids can do that is wrong, but correctable with some punishment. But even for small mistakes, accountability and punishment are needed.
This crime was waaaay beyond that...

I read some of the comments on the Globe and Mail site from whence this piece originated. Interesting...
How do you deal with youth who do horrible things like this? I dunno. Youth crime is a huge problem here in NZ: and we don’t seem to mind chucking them in gaol if need be.
In many ways I am of the view that the Singapore Solution is best practise for Law & Order. But with that comes a whole bunch of ideological necessities that do not sit well with someone who loves Freedom and Liberty.
Still, twelve mighty thwacks of the Rotan across the naked flanks of these cat-cooking mungrels would be a good start...

They should be cooked in a microwave. Sick s.o.b.s like that go on to do this to people too. A year’s probabtion is a PATHETIC punishment for these monsters in training.

As an animal lover I personally cannot think of a punishment too severe for creeps such as these punks. I am in your corner on that one.

Anyone who harms my Scruffy (dog) - well all I can say is that I will be the one in prison - for homicide!

Those kids need killing. Sorry, thats the way it is. Trying hard to leave emotional outrage behind, I once had a cat who was injured and tortured by a "Troubled Child". In later years he did go on to do it to people. The last I heard he was in prison.
I will always feel guilt and the need to apologize to Society for not putting the little bastard down, thereby sparing many people pain, and society a tremedous cost.
There are people who are intrinsically evil by nature.
I swore the next time I will do the right thing. I would NEVER stop hunting them.
To: chessplayer
100 hours? Are they nuts.
100,000 hours at hard labor isn’t enough for this act of ruthless evil !!
To: chessplayer
Deal with them now or deal with them later.
Community service does nobody any good.

If I was that cat's owner I would welcome the sentance which would put both of those scumbags in reach of me and real justice. I'm not saying I would kill them but they might die during the ordeal.
And spare me the "it was only a cat, they're humans". Wrong on both counts.

You have to wonder what sort of “service” to the community the court expects people like this to provide.

what they did to the cat and the destruction of private property *and* the distress they caused to the family
it is hard to see how some jail time was not justified

Short of invading Canada, there’s nothing we can do about that government’s policies.
