Two Canadian teens were handed a year’s probation for trashing a home while the owners were on vacation, and leaving behind a nasty present, according to the Globe and Mail.
Among the $10,000 in damages was writing scrawled on the kitchen window and cabinets: "You had a nice cat" and "it's in the microwave."
Princess, the cat, "was screaming in the microwave for 10 minutes while it was essentially cooked to death," Prosecutor John Laluk reportedly told the court.

“Probation,” huh? What’s the matter, do the Canadians not “strongly caution” criminals like the Brits do?
This is beyond disgusting. These two scum should have gotten at least some jail time. What they did to that poor cat was cruel to the point of depravity.
Chop off their privates and put them in a microwave so they never reproduce. (And, yes, I am a cat person)
This is how it all starts,first they ignore basic law,then they vote themselves unending welfare and soon you have Los Angeles. Beginning of the end.
I believe I read that one of the traits of Bundy type psychos is animal cruelty at a young age. It appears this is how they begin their dreadful lives of torture and murder, using innocent and trusting pets in order to build their confidence toward doing what they really want to do, murder and torture humans.
As an animal lover I personally cannot think of a punishment too severe for creeps such as these punks.

Anyone who would willingly inflict that kind of pain on an innocent creature, and then treat it as a joke, is a sicko.
There’s also a certain bitter humor in the fact that Canadian law could (would) have meted out a far more severe punishment if these two teens had engaged in “hate speech.”
I truly do not understand this world, sometimes.
I don't have pets, but you don't need your own cat to know that this was evil [Obama, take notes: evil exists and it's not just an equally valid perspective, not even if you want these criminals and the cat to all "show restraint"]. My suggestion? A minimum of two years in solitary confinement, followed by some sort of halfway house to reteach or more likely teach for the first time the basic social constraints that civilized people follow. I wouldn't object to ten or even twenty years in prison. The family that they victimized won't recover that soon, and I don't see why the criminals should have gotten off easier than their victims.

I found out another, even more appalling fact. One of the boys who did this was already on probation for setting his brother on fire.

While I’m usually against releasing the names of minors who commit crimes, there are a few cases where it’s justified. This is one of them.
The attorney defending the kids described one of them as a nice kid who realized he did something wrong. Wrong! This isn`t like a kid letting the air out of someones car tires for a prank. There is nothing “nice” about someone whose psychiatric makeup would permit them to do something like this.
Frankly, if this doesn’t sink in with the judges that the boy is a menace to the public, nothing will. I think judges should start being held both financially and criminally liable if they set free (or give proverbial “non-sentences”) such individuals that then procede to commit other crimes, as this one most surely will.
Being a core-less party nothing is to vile for them to try.
