JUNEAU, Alaska When Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin sought to illustrate her frugality and flair to delegates at the GOP convention Wednesday, she described how she disposed of a corporate jet acquired by her unpopular predecessor.
"That luxury jet was over the top," Palin, the Republican vice presidential nominee, said to loud cheers. "I put it on eBay."
Palin's statement implied the plane was sold through the online auction site revered for empowering millions of small entrepreneurs, and Palin's spokeswoman insisted Thursday that the transaction occurred. But the plane failed to sell on eBay. Instead, the 23-year-old 10-seat Westwind II was sold in August 2007 for $2.1 million to a Valdez, Alaska, entrepreneur; that's about $300,000 less than a broker's asking price, according to news accounts.

I am using kid to refer more to your naivety than your age...if we continue to live in the past and do not allow for forward movement...we are lost. I am sorry if I offend, but we need to change our thinking some EternalVigilance...
McCain, has selected an individual for VP that along with his (albeit newly) spoken desire for a conservative revolution represents the best shot we all have to restoring America. We need to put our past behind us...and be willing to move forward in a positive and conservative way. We need to be unified as conservatives.
At the least, we know that we will have a very pro life team, a team that is running on reducing government (I love when he swore to make pork barrel addition authors “famous” and “we will know their names”), reducing taxes...at least where he thinks he can...and security.
No one else out there is offering us this kind of opportunity. You can stay in the past, hoping whatever the hell people like you hope...or, you can join us.
Let’s help McCain/Palin ROCK Washington! The party is being lead towards the right direction for us...and it is McCain who is leading.
This is just the Chicago Media attempting to save their adopted Magic Negro....
They’re so panicked they’ve begun to hear things in the night...
Palin didn’t say she SOLD the plane on Ebay —
She said she PUT the plane on Ebay..
The poor Chicago media rats — as poorly educated as Obama and Michelle?
Or simply liars?
Nice try, troll.
The plane was depreciated and it was sold for more than the book value, hence making a profit.
Learn something before spouting.
I hope the rocks at the bottom of the cliff don't kill you, truly I do.
I just read a posting at a leftwing blog site that more than one outlet of the MSM is investigatin, are you ready, that in 1986 Sarah Palin was seen driving 56 MPH in a 55 MPH zone!!
This is such a non-issue it’s laughable. What was Obama doing when Sarah was taking charge? Is there a site of all the Biden and Obama lies?
It depends on what your definition of “is” is.
Agreed...
Our side didn't lie. If you want to believe the MSM, try DU, its made for Dummies like you.
Wpin, thanks for the writers email addresses. I’ve sent them both an email.
I told them they were climbing a telephone pole backward to make themselves look stupid. I congratulated them on their success, and wished them luck with their future endeavors.
What idiots.
I didn't say our side lied, I said YOU lied.
McCain mistakenly assumed that the plane was sold on eBay and misspoke - I'm sure he'll correct himself.
But for you to deny what he said when it's captured on video (as you apparently want to do), is sheer stupidity and that's what the libs do.
You called McCain an ignoramus, not me. See your post #92
McCain may have made a mistake, but that does not make him an ignoramus.
Besides, I thought you were calling McCain a liar for saying it was sold at a profit.
There are 113 comments here on Free Republic. How many of you posted a comment on the Chicago Tribune site?
When you post on Free Republic, you are preaching to the choir. It is relaxing and fun to share comments with people who agree with you, which is one of the reasons we all post here.
But we are not going to further our cause by posting here. We need to reach out and post our comments in places where they will be read by people of different political persuasions. If we don’t, then we should not complain about the media thinking everyone thinks like them. Conservatives need to defend their views in a logical and respectful manner...even with a sense of humor, if we are to win people over to our side.
I buy an item for $1,000,000. It depreciates $100,000. I sell it for $800,000. You're saying I made $1,700,000?
Liberals, Democrats, and lib media types ALWAYS suck at economics...
True, but that doesn't mean conservatives can't slip up too.
No, I was responding to Post #6 who implied that anyone who assumed that the plane had been sold on eBay was an ignoramous.
I assumed that based on Palin's speech as did John McCain .
Reread my post and you'll see that "ignoramous" is in quotes. I don't think either I or McCain are ignoramouses for having been confused by Palin's plane account. I'm sure she has clarified the issue with him as to what really happened.
OK. I recall the troll remark.
Let’s call it a misunderstanding.
Balls of steel.
You would never stand face to face with John McCain and call him a leftist.
Alan Keyes will never be POTUS, nor should he ever be.
