Palin Billed State for Nights Spent at Home Taxpayers Also Funded Family's Travel By James V. Grimaldi and Karl Vick Washington Post Staff Writers Tuesday, September 9, 2008; Page A01
ANCHORAGE, Sept. 8 -- Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has billed taxpayers for 312 nights spent in her own home during her first 19 months in office, charging a "per diem" allowance intended to cover meals and incidental expenses while traveling on state business.
The governor also has charged the state for travel expenses to take her children on official out-of-town missions. And her husband, Todd, has billed the state for expenses and a daily allowance for trips he makes on official business for his wife.
Palin, who earns $125,000 a year, claimed and received $16,951 as her allowance, which officials say was permitted because her official "duty station" is Juneau, according to an analysis of her travel documents by The Washington Post.
The governor's daughters and husband charged the state $43,490 to travel and many of the trips were to and from their house in Wasilla and Juneau, the capital city 600 miles away, the documents show.

Or at least they hope people will say gee, there’s lots of stuff about here, surely the truth is somewhere in the middle.
Truth in the middle (relativism) is a logical fallacy. A truism.
*****unless he’s got a lot of dough hidden away someplace.*****
Hey Russ, how about Switzerland banks?
I think she wins from this particular scrutiny. Good job.
=]
If she is supposed to be in the governor’s house in Juneau, then she IS away when she is in her home in Wasilla which is 600 miles away.
People simply don’t grasp how BIG Alaska is.
600 miles away from Delaware, Biden’s home, would have you in Illinois, Obama’s home. Alaska is an ENORMOUS state.
Additionally, travel is NOT easy.
So, if someone is officially living as a CEO in Pittsburgh, and they travel to their home of Nashville, TN, AND CONDUCT BUSINESS, they could stay in ExtendedStay America and submit bills charging for all their motel and food bills, couldn’t they?
What if the stay in CEOHomeInc, and submit bills charging for all their CEOHomeInc room and food bills?
When the Pres goes to his home in Crawford, TX, who SHOULD pay the bills IF HE’S CONDUCTING BUSINESS?
DU is laughing like Renfields over this. Every time B Husseins folks throw out accusations, they look more & more foolish. I guess it must be true how so many graduate from school, without learning to read & comprehend.
Her home is in Wasilla, cheeze whiz.
You sure do seem to enjoy all the legwork you are doing for Obama.
These same people go on and on about how great Joe Biden is, riding his own private Amtrak car every night at taxpayer expense.
O’Biden travels from Washington to Delaware and billing the trip as if he had traveled from Washington, through Chicago, and then back to Delaware. Just my opinion.
Worth repeating.
that is cheap compared to the the perks congress charges us for. hope someone will take a look.
Not hearing much about this story. Think thas why Obama was so touchy about his wifes critics.
>>Bob Beckel repeated the charge on F&F this morning. He was saying something like, its not fair to say she cant be a good mother or to go after her teenage daughter... but the allegation that she charged the state for nights spent at home is fair game.<<
Catch-22. If she leaves the kids at home while she does state business she is a “bad mother,” but if she makes apparently legal charges to take the kids with her, she is “unethical.”
Wasilla to Juneau 810 miles by car. The article says 600 miles, I assume by air. The article also says that she utilizes a state office in Anchorage, which is a little over 40 miles away. The article does not state whether the per diem relates to travel from her home to the Anchorage office.
The real story here will be how many Democrat pols do NOT comment on it.
